What microphones are you using for profiling? Any comparisons between something like a Sure SM57 and reference mics like an Earthworks TC30? Anyone try the Behringer ECM8000 reference mic?
Has anyone tried mixing 2 or more mics for a profile.

The KPA has no separate cabinet and microphone selection options as e.g. the AxeFx - so you need to profile the mic you like.
When creating IR's for the AxeFx than it's a good idea to capture the sound with a neutral reference mic like the TC30 or ECM8000 - and add the mic coloring later via the mic selection.
TC30 and SM57 are totally different species - the first is great for the AxeFx (IR's in general) the second may be good for the KPA.
I found that each of my amps needed a different setup.
In case you have no mic's - for the start will a SM57 be all you need. The KPA has an inbuilt mic-preamp - so that's all you need.
I am a big fan of the Royer R121 - it gives me in most cases the sound I like.

Me too, and is just 100€ cheaper than the KPA... ....I need to win at the lottery...
lol
Its great if you have rally nice microphones, but not strictly necessary.
Whatever mic you profile with, you can always 'swap' your cab and mic for one of the cab/mic profiles already here.
Tylerhb for example has uploaded a veritable library of excellently profiled Marshall 1960 and Mesa cabs already, mostly done with two mics.
I love the r121. Flat response, smooooth highs, defined and realistic mids. You can record what you hear in the room.
My KPA is on the way...hopefully at the studio next week. I bought it mainly to profile my own amps for live use and studio use. I look forward to profiling my 3 Monkeys Orangutan, Xits X10, Vox AC30H2L (which sounds amazing due to the African Mahogany chassis), Bogner Shiva, and Orange Rockerverb. I will be using Coles 4038s, Royer R121s, AEA R92s, Blue Woodpeckers, and several other mics to really capture some sick tones, all through an Electronaut M63 tube preamp, Thermionic Phoenix ME compressor, and to an Anamod ATS-1 tape simulator. So, expect some sweet profiles coming soon! Really psyched to join the community.
