Stereo output hookup / options for Gemini 2 and front of house

  • Looking for some recommendations / experience.

I've recently gotten a gemini 2, cannot say enough about the unit and the companies support. My question is about the setup using the main outs on the kemper.

Based on it being a stereo cab, I can come out of the main outs XLR to the Gemini 2 cab via a TRS cable (stereo 1/4"). This provide a stereo cabinet for stage use. However, it then ties up my stereo xrl's for FOH. Not to mention, the kempers output from the main outs is incredibly hot for many mixers.

    Options I see are:

    1. XLR to trs to gemini, out of gemini's 2nd input / output from trs to xlr back to FOH. (however, when I turn up on stage, it's also turning up signal to FOH)

    2. XLR to trs to gemini , mono outs (left and right) to FOH from kemper? (or vice versa)

I could always run mono with the monitor out, which is what I did prior to having the stereo cab and I liked that because i could send a lower and constant signal to the FOH BUT, I've got the stereo option and wanted to see if others are taking advantage of it and how with the FOH.

Does anyone of another stereo output that could be used for the monitor out (other than the headphones)

    thanks in advance,
    jason

  • You can use monitor and direct out for a stereo setup regarding the Gemini (cabsim must be on because there's no way to turn it off only for the direct out). This way the main outs are free for FOH. When using XLR for FOH keep in mind that some desks are activating mic preams automatically when seeing XLR. That makes the signal hotter. Lower the volume of the main outs to approx. -20 or use the -12 tick box in output menu.

I could have farted and it would have sounded good! (Brian Johnson)

    Great info. Thank you!

  • @Kempermaniac Thanks a lot man, although some may argue that having 2 guitarist in a live gig may make the stereo sound not worth it via monitoring, but for some depending on the type of music and one guitarist etc its great to use the stereo power i have been trying to get every one to try the mission cab in stereo for ages, i am getting a second mission cab soon and ill try the main outs and your suggestions of monitor and direct out to get TWO 2X12;s in STEREO STEREO :D

Another great feature of having 2 mission cabs is you can plug them into each other and get a 4X12 stereo sound they automatically route each other into a stereo signal.
@harlowmedia Let us know how the gig sounded :)

Have a beer and don't sneer. -CJ. Two non powered Kempers -Two mission stereo FRFR Cabs - Ditto X4 -TC electronic Mimiq.

Pure insanity :) I already have an eye on the Gemini...

Regarding the stereo setup via monitor and direct out: I'm not sure if the two outputs are using the same volume scale. So maybe it's necessary to adjust the volume of each output by ear until both have the same volume. Then I'd link both outputs to master volume to handle them together as one volume.
