+4 or -10

My apologies if this has been asked and answered before.

I run my Profiler into an Apogee Ensemble (thence to my DAW). I am given two choices for line in - either +4db or -10db. I've heard that the former is for "pro" gear and the latter for consumer or prosumer gear.

If I select +4, there is less volume (which is expected) while -10 raises the level (again expected). Either works fine, although I tend to add some gain with a gain plug-in or compressor when using +4.

My question is - is there a right answer? Should I be choosing one over the other or does it not really matter?
