It's interesting how the Kemper has really made me re-evaluate my sound and my amps..

  • The power options are great when using a tube amp - to get power amp distortion at a lower level.

But I found - during my Lonestar Special profiling session - that the profiles sounds almost the same.

The 5Watt settings is a little bit different since it does not use the push/pull power amp configurations (since only one tube is used) - but this is only important for clean sounds.

15 and 30 Watt's sound the same - there is a difference, because the 15 Watt setup use a tube rectifier while the 30 Watt setup use silicon diodes - but it's not a sounds difference only a different 'sag' feeling.

Unfortunately will this not be captured by the Kemper - but it's possible to dial it in later - with the 'power sag' setting in the KPA amp section.

The great thing - this is possible with any amp - we can convert each 'silicon diodes' powered amp into a 'tube rectifier' powered amp - with just one knob to turn - Cool!

  • Armin,

Thanks - I couldn't tell much difference either, although I can perceive a difference when playing the Lonestar.

I think these are much better than my first attempt at profiling, with the clean, breaking and lead sound doing the amp justice.

  • If is a Flextone III try to run the kemper with cab on through the return, it could surprise you.... ;)

  • Well spotted. I normally worry about socialising new guitars to avoid jealousy rather than amps...

It's a Flextone II but I'll checkout whether it can power the kemper, though I've got a Mackie powered PA speaker

Underneath the Line 6 is a Sessionette 75 which I need to try a capture at some stage. Too many things and too little time.

    Cheers
