How to record and reamp correctly using SPDIF In - Out

  • I posted this in another thread but had no response:
When recording the SPDIF direct guitar signal from the kemper, the performance is not currently recording at optimal level. when i reamp sending the SPDIF signal back to the kemper, the gain staging is wrong from the original performance. When i gain match, its roughly 12db off, and even then with a phase reverse it isnt close to being completely cancelled out to the original recorded performance. I understand it will never completely cancel out due to the way the kemper processes differently each time, but i feel i can definitely get it closer with the right advice here. How do i set my kemper to output optimal level? Some help from CK or someone with experience would be rad, thanks in advance!

  • Hey !

Phase issues : Make sure you are using a rig that is fixed for CONSTANT LATENCY from recording to the DI to reamping (this is a new 1.6.0 feature)
    More info here > http://kemper-amps.com/forum/i…ad&postID=64060#post64060

Gain Staging : I'm having the same problem, I have to add aprrox 12dB of gain to the record DI (via SPDIF) for it to be equivalent, but the tone returning from the Kemper is a bit different (less definition) and my output may clip on hard strumming.

Even with the Constant Latency fix + manually synch the two signals in phase, I cannot get the 2 signals to cancel at all, but the phase problem is constant, not variable like it was without the fix.
