I always have my AMT P1 + EHX Magnum with me.
How does the Magnum sound with the Kemper ?
I'm not sure if i should buy it to run my kemper into my cab (to use it as a monitor).
Btw, you should profile the AMT !

LOL - I wouldn't use my phone as backup tone on a serious road tour, either
But, for the rest of an individual gig, my G-System could provide the effects, and switch amp sounds in the phone via MIDI.

Since I began using modeling 8 yrs ago, I've always have a spare device. I keep a Pod XT "kidney bean" in my gig bag at all times. I also have a backup backup...a Mini-Pod in the pocket of my backup guitar's case. That's my business travel axe and I use the mini-pod when stuck in a hotel room.

I planned to use my iPhone or iPad as backup should something go pear shaped at a gig. I highly doubt it, but I have my phone with me at all times, and I did play about two dozen gigs with BIAS+JamUp combo with no hazzle at all. And good tones too, so I think I'm set!

Another recommendable one is the Zoom MS50-G.
Easy to setup in case of a profiler failure (never had one) and very capable, sounds good. -
I always have a spare tube amp in the car.
Can't bear the thought of playing through anything else but the Kemper or my tube amps!Not had to bring it in to the venue yet!!

I don't carry a back-up amp or modeler, although I do have my old HD500 (which, BTW, sounds pretty good through a CLR) and DT25 "just in case". I should probably set up and use the HD500 as a MIDI foot controller for the KPA so that I have a back up in case the KPA dies at a gig.

I've been doing this actually for the past days and found this to be rather nice and convenient way. Covers both MIDI controller AND backup amp needs.In browser mode HD500 can have available:
- 4 profiles
- 5 stomp fx on/offs (including toe switch)
- TAP switch
- TUNER switch (programmed to the 'LOOPER' switch)
- Two expression pedals in one
The tuner can be of course accessed also by turning the midi volume all the way down, but I changed the volume range to be 70-100% to get more accuracy in the volume behavior. Separate dedicated 'looper' switch (which is otherwise useless) can be set for this purpose also and works just fine. -
NEVER gig without a backup for everything important IMO
