    Public Beta 1.5.0.7769

This public beta release addresses several issues and adds new features including selective preset browse and extensive routing options for the output section.

added: output source selection parameters in Output Section and output presets
added: Selective Browse of amp, stack, and cabinet
added: new Control Change #s can be controlled via expression pedal:
added: copy & paste for text editing
added: reception of Midi clock does enable tempo

    changed: increased performance on import
changed: backups do contain the current rig and lockings now
changed: browse control timeout increased to 4 seconds
    changed: SPDIF improved
    changed: improved Pick parameter

fixed: after reboot, the MIDI volume gets reset to maximum
fixed: local presets and selective browse presets can be loaded while sections are locked
    fixed: dialogs are better visible

    Known Issues:

    - Downgrade to some older Firmware (e. g. 1.1.0 Release and 1.1.1 Public Beta) will cause a hang, which can be overcome by a reset of global settings (push and hold the SYSTEM button, while starting the unit). If you need to recover your global settings, please create a backup before you upgrade to 1.5.0 and restore afterwards.
    - After scrolling through MIDI PrgChg#s on page 5/8 of the System menu and selecting another PC# without assigning it, no PC# will get displayed on the main screen. However the original PC# is still functional.
    - When changing filter or sort criteria the Midi PC# of the actual rig disappears from the display, but the PC # is still functional.

The Rig Exchange is open for business!

One of the most exciting prospects for KPA owners is to share their profiles with others. That's why you're invited to become a part of the community and share your profiles with users.
Rig Exchange on the Kemper Amps website allows you to upload your own profiles into the cloud, conveniently edit and amend the rig's tagging and either keep those as a backup to yourself or share your uploads with the rest of us.

    Rig Exchange

Remember: the better you tag your rigs, the easier others can find it.

    Kemper Profiling Amplifier LoFi-Update

The Lofi-Update for the Kemper Profiling Amplifier brings 8 new and unusual effects that, up until now, were mostly found only in synthesizers or plugins.
The effects are: Rate Reducer, Ring Modulator, Frequency Shifter, Recti Shaper, Bit Shaper, Soft Shaper, Hard Shaper and Wave Shaper.

All new effects are available in the 'Stomps' as well as in the 'Effects' section. Due to their non-linear character, the results of placing them pre-amp or post-amp can be quite different.

The Rate Reducer, Ring Modulator and Frequency Shifter expand the pedal-controlled effects (orange LED), and can be modified with an expression pedal or by an envelope follower (touch mode). Recti Shaper, Bit Shaper, Soft Shaper, Hard Shaper and Wave Shaper belong to the drive effects section (red LED).

    The Effects

    Rate Reducer
This effect reduces the sampling rate of the audio signal passing through. The sampling frequency is controlled with the 'Manual' parameter. Lowering the sample rate results in a raspy, scratchy quality as well as aliasing. Use the 'Peak' parameter to continuously control the quality of the sample rate interpolation, which will alter the harmonic content drastically.

    Ring Modulator
Here, the signal is modulated by a sine oscillator. The pitch of the oscillator is controlled with the 'Manual' parameter - note that the 'Manual' parameter is bipolar, therefore a setting of '0' will have no effect. Lower settings produce a tremolo-like effect, whereas higher settings bend the complete harmonic structure of the instrument into a bell-like character by shifting every frequency component either upwards (sum frequency) or downwards (difference frequency).

The 'Stereo' parameter divides the sum and difference frequencies into the left and right channel. The bipolar nature of the 'Manual' parameter can now be used to reverse the stereo panorama.

As usual, the 'Mix' parameter adds the direct signal. With 'Mix' in the middle position, the ring modulation becomes amplitude modulation.

    Frequency Shifter
The frequency shifter is a rarely seen effect and can be thought of as a 'deluxe' ring modulator. Even today, only a handful of frequency shifters exist in the digital domain.

It is as useful in creating beautiful, subtle harmonic deviations as it is in producing high-pitched, clangourous noise. Like the ring modulator, it uses a sine wave to modulate the signal, but in such a way as to produce only the 'sum' or 'difference' frequencies of the two signals. In contrast to a pitch shifter, which preserves the dependencies of the harmonics, the frequency shifter bends these dependencies, resulting in a bell-like spectrum. It's not unlike a shortwave radio that hasn't been tuned correctly.

Use the 'Manual' parameter to determine the pitch of the sine wave. This is a bipolar parameter where the centre position (0) will result in no audible frequency shifting.

Turning 'Manual' clockwise results in a linear frequency shift upwards, while turning it counter-clockwise results in a downwards shift. Note how the shifted signal loses its harmonic structure.
When 'Manual' is adjusted to the far left, you will notice that the pitch starts to rise again. This is the result of frequencies being shifted past 0Hz, which causes them to be mirrored upwards.

The 'Stereo' parameter allows continuous adjustment of the phase of the left and right channels, thereby creating a subtle, or blatant, stereo-widening effect.

    Recti Shaper
The Recti Shaper behaves like a physical rectifier, by folding the negative half-cycle into the positive portion of a wave. The intensity of the effect is controlled by 'Drive'.
This effect is best known from octave fuzzes, which work by combining a rectifier with distortion. The Recti Shaper provides you with just the rectifier part, so you can combine it with other effects and distortions as you see fit.

    Bit Shaper
The Bit Shaper continuously reduces the bit depth of a signal, with higher 'Drive' settings resulting in fewer available bits. The effect can be described as introducing a fizzy distortion, with a choking of the signal at high settings. The signal can even break off completely at the most extreme settings.

'Peak' controls the shape of the digital steps, which affects the high-end content of the signal.

Soft Shaper, Hard Shaper and Wave Shaper
These are distortion effects, with a unique character, that probably never existed in the analog realm. They are especially destructive when playing double-stops or chords.

We've released a new public beta for version 1.0.9 just now.
The new version is called 1.0.9.7426 - It is identical to version 7415 but addresses a stability issue introduced in the first release of 1.0.9

    have a good weekend, gs

    Ok, got it!!!!

What G String meant in the release notes was:
The new firmware contains every factory rig up to date (including all the rigs of the Rig Pack) plus an additional 20 new rigs. (19 rigs by Till, 1 by M.Franzkowiak)

    There!

i was simply wrong ... what you say is right: it contains Rig Pack 01 and 20 additional rigs.
    cheers, gs

    enjoy! best, gs

    hi everybody -

first of all, let me get something off my chest: it is all your fault! if you wouldn't supply this enormous amount of great profiles, we wouldn't have to discuss this now ;) - so seriously, thank you everybody for sharing your greatest possessions!
rig exchange will get better, in order to accommodate appropriately what you supply. as for sorting, that's the easier part. rating is what we brew on at the moment (it doesn't make much sense to rate before you play the profile). i'm positive that we'll find a good solution in the foreseeable future. feel free to discuss your take on a rating system in here.
    thanks, gs

This public beta version addresses various issues and offers refinements to existing functions. Among the changes are:

    - Changing to another rig will now always recall the tempo setting from the new rig
    - An issue related to the the output settings has been addressed
    - A recently introduced issue regarding the monitor output and S/PDIF output volumes has been addressed

The new version can be downloaded here: http://www.kemper-amps.com/start/

    best, gs

No output from S/PDIF - Problem solved

As I replied back to Burkhard from KPA support (thanks a lot, mate!):
"The suggestion to "Push and hold two buttons - AMPLIFIER and CABINET - while you switch on the device and directly move the chickenhead knob into PROFILER position"

please note that this will reset, ERASE in other words, your MIDI program change assignments as well. if you feel that you need to perform this task, you might want to make a backup first.

This public beta version addresses various issues and offers refinements to existing functions. Among the changes are:

    - Improved noise gate featuring a much faster attack
    - Improved handling of MIDI assignment versus backup/restore and factory rigs
    - Fix for an issue which allowed values to suddenly change while being controlled with a knob
    - Addresses a sound character issue with previously loaded rigs
    - Better handling of illegal values in damaged rig files
    - Addresses an assertion when editing certain stomps in MOD slot
    - Basic manuals in English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese included

Note: In order to improve noise levels we have (temporarily) deactivated the Alternative Input for normal operation (plug-in your guitar on the backside of the KPA), however it is still functional for Loop Stereo.

The public beta version can be downloaded here: http://www.kemper-amps.com/start/

Agree. Since many profiles are just diffferent versions of the same thing this would be helpful.

if you limit the list to for instance an author, you will get something like a sub folder. it is not the same but it might help. also, we appreciate authors deleting older version of profiles (or at least make them invisible for public) when they decide to post an updated version.
we will work on rig exchange, it's a great tool and deserves improvements. we are immensely impressed with the amount and overall quality of the user profiles in there. thanks you guys!
    gs

i made it a habit to clean up before i start working with rigs/samples/photos etc. - i rather would use a strong selection (and find what i need fast) than having to many options. if you clean up right after importing a bunch of rigs you can easily focus on what has been just added.
    gs

the difference in brightness is not a bug, it represents different states.
for instance, the the rig buttons dim, once you hit the "end" of the list of rigs you can scroll through. the stomp buttons get dim when you switch all stomps off (press STOMPS to do so). same is true for the STACK and EFFECTS section.
