When reamping, the sound you get back is exactly the same as when you first played it, assuming you're using the same amp. If its not, you've done something wrong somewhere.

What do you mean when you say the original "recording was quite thin"?

I think in terms of perspective: There are a lot of people using Kempers, there are a lot of people happy with them and a small minority who aren't happy, either with the product or the pricing or whatever. This is and always will be the case for everything. In my tiny humble opinion, the price of the remote is a touch high, sitting at a third of the price i bought my KPA for. To me this is a lot of cash for a metal box with some buttons and a screen, but since none of the other controllers on the market are adequate IMO I'll be forced to buy one anyway. Some people seem obsessed with the "looper", personally i'm utterly dumbfounded by it. I've played hundreds and seen probably thousands of gigs over the last 10 years and literally don't think i've ever seen one used.

I've been away and missed all the announcement shizz. Is everyone totally ok with the price? I like many others i know were pretty shocked by it, certainly wasn't expecting it to be "cheap" but honestly for a bit of metal and some buttons, not even a single pedal, its close to double what i was expecting. My guess is they could charge double again though and plenty of people would just hand over their cash, sigh.

What kind of speaker cabinet will you be using?

A powered FRFR cabinet like the Yamaha DXR10 is around the same price as a power amp, and will give you the same kind of of sound you have been hearing with studio monitors.

If OP has a guitar cab already this is certainly not true.

    Behringer EPQ900: £160 ish
    Yamaha DXR10: £459 at least

So...I haven't done the SPDIF thing with my Kemper as of yet. My interface has only the digital in. I haven't really looked much into reamping but I gather you need the digital out as well to back to the kemper if doing reamping, correct?

I will have a go at some point soon with the spdif in to my interface. I have to get one of those spdif to toslink convertors, unfortunately.

No0. Re-amping doesn't have to be done digitally, you can use an analogue connection for the return, and for the send as well if you like. SPDIF is just more ideal as it bypasses any AD/DA conversion and generally maintains quality better.

Not really sure what kinda answers you were expecting here. Everyone records the same way, either with a mono or stereo connection to a soundcard via analogue or digital outs.

"sound of and interaction with the amp is organic and affects the performance. Reamping the dry signal with a different setup is too sterile." Arguing about "sterile" when recording digitally with computers using a digital amp modeller is a bit redundant IMO. Reamping is immensely useful for all sorts. For eg MANY bands have intonation problems with recording, especially down tuned stuff on bass guitars. When recording my bands album i was able to record the bass tone along with the dry signal of the bass, tune it, then reamp with the KPA and lose the old wet signal. Perfect sound, perfect intonation.

But it's one of the things that people have been asking for since the KPA was launched, and every other semi-competing product on the market has one. No surprise they would invest the time to implement it, and it's mainly a software + RAM concern. It doesn't have a massive impact on the hardware side of things, and since the company was founded partly by Access Music, they probably already had 70% (to pull a figure out of my ass!!) of the tech built for it.

I'm supremely glad they put a looper in it, because it means I'll be able to compose on the fly.

People have been asking for all sorts though. Like i say i just hope it doesn't mean the price is too high like that ridiculous axefx one.

Pretty bummed about the looper. IMO a looper is a fairly specialist and unnecessary bit of kit, its going to be adding expense to a foot controller and i'm guessing its not going to come cheap as it is.
