Lo if meaning not of high quality. Flat and without a lot of definition. Listen and you'll see.

What I meant was, inputs 1-8 are mic inputs. 9 and 10 are 1/4 inch inputs with adjustable gain knobs. Are they not the type of line in you were talking about as being preferable? Is it not better to be able to adjust the gain as opposed to just setting it.

It doesn't matter anyway, I'm buying a Focusrite 18i8 in the morning,

I'm at work at the moment so I'll have to wait until Monday or tomorrow if I can't sleep.

But I will get back to you. Thanks.

With me, I get decent levels when recording, trying to keep the peaks at around -12 in the meters but it just comes out quiet. I'll see if it's better with the focusrite.

    Thanks!

I think I'll get the 8i8. You have the 6i6, so I guess that if everything is set up the same I should get similar results.

I may ask for some advice if I get stuck from you if that's okay. Especially as my recordings all seem Lo fi. When you reamped did you have to increase the volume much or just a bit of the master?

I find that I enter clipping territory quite quickly and it still sounds quiet, but that could be my interface. Thanks.

In regards to my USB interface.

Inputs 1-8 are mic inputs with preamps. But 9 and 10 are 1/4 inch inputs with adjustable gain. Are they not suitable for recording or should I just use the ones that will be set to +10?

I can never get it to sound anything but lo fi when I record a single track.

I went via Direct Out into one of the Line In inputs on the Tascam while I recorded the wet. So both at the same time.

It is recorded in 24bit. I've got the LEV set to +10.

Thanks for getting back to me. It is set to 24bit. I think I saved it as 16bit for some reason. Out of interest, what impact could this have?

What do you think of the sound? I reset the Kemper and it sounds better. I think the original sounds Lo Fi while yours has some more low end and a lot more clarity. Was that single tracked or double?

When I record a single track it comes across really quiet, even though the levels are decent so I need to copy it over to another track to double them up.

They had it for a month when the power amp failed a few months ago. I really do need to find someone who can definitely compare it for me. But that's a longshot. :)

It's evident on headphones, rokits whatever. I hear it in nearly all profiles. It's there on all my guitars.

    Cabinets are enabled.

Really I need to find someone in London who is experienced with it who can diagnose it for me, but I don't know anyone at all who uses them, and I doubt that studios with them will be willing to let me come and without paying, so it could be very expensive.

    Dunno what to do. :/

That In My Head recording was done with the 11R a year ago, using EZDrummer. No Kemper involvement there. I'm getting some assistance in the SPDIF thread now. I do appreciate your help. Someone is taking a DI track I've recorded and will see what they can do with it. Have a look.

If it's something simple I'm going to die... ;)

I've posted them in both .AIF & .Wav format. I hope that's okay?

I'm going for a heavier, rock sound. Kinda like these guys.

I could only get it anywhere close, yet still not close by double tracking it, and keeping the DI track in the mix, otherwise it would sound somewhat flat. I can also hear the crackling and fizzing all over the place whereas in that recording it's huge, clear, etc.

    Here's my best effort.

https://soundcloud.com/farce_bandit/test As I get heavier it get's worse and if I remove the DI track it loses the low end.

Sure. I'll do it after lunch. Thank you.

I don't want to get rid of it but I'm starting to lose patience. I've been at this for 6 months nearly.

I'll make sure there's no clipping on the input or output. Should I just post them on soundcloud and make them available for download? MP3 format?

I can't get a hi fi sounding recording with a single track so I copy the track on to a second track to give it more oomph. Do you want me to do that or just a single track?

So I've tried your profiles. They still sound crackly. These overtones just won't go away and I don't hear them on other recordings. People say they don't do any post production and they have these awesome distortions and nothing I do gets rid of these overtones.

Listen to this. This was done on the 11R. It's tight, it didn't take long to dial in. https://soundcloud.com/farce_bandit/in-my-head-demo-new

This was done on the Kemper, it's overly fizzy and crackly. Distortion/Clean sens does nothing to it, nor does clarity or anything else, I'm not clipping anywhere.

I can't get it to sound remotely as good as this. (I done this on the 11R too) https://soundcloud.com/farce_bandit/without-you

And here's a sample recorded with Logics VSTs, https://soundcloud.com/farce_bandit/new-1

Which sound much better to me. Could there be something wrong here?
