when i use highend preamps for profiling..they colour the sound yes....do they make the profile better? No
Sometimes i like with..sometimes i like without...but the difference is anyway less than 1% and most users will not even hear the difference
Keep believing in myths
you will only like the way "profiler A" uses to mic his cabs and how he dials in the amp maybe more than "profiler B" does this...or the specific cabinet..or the specific mic
the reason for lets say "not so good profiles" on Rigexchange etc....is simply the missing experience how to mic a cab well..and that some Amp settings simply do not work miced

Display MoreIf you wnna have an authentic snapshot of the real amp you need a several refining processes (all across the fretboard!) and always a comparison between so with a blind Di profiling this wouldn't work relly good to get this authentic snapshot. this is our experiment thru many sessions!.
Soemthing I wanna add too because some guys think that profiling is something everybody could do at home to( of course you could but not as good as in a professional studio)
you need some things like:
1. A a really good Hiclass studio with several different mikes and a good mixing desk
2. A great sound engineer with lots of experience of guitar recordings
3. time, time, time to compare your results
4. a good versatile guitar player who's knows about amps & guitars
5. Recoding good sounds samples
6.Time to label all theses tags in the profile
6.a professional website to market your product

Wrong. Anybody can make profiles that's the beauty of it. Only difference will be in result of course. You don' need all that stuff you pointed out. Kemper knows it and we all know it! But I do agree that you should play all around the fretboard while refining to get close as possible!
People like to believe that there's magic behind it but there's not. Manual explains it all very clearly!

So for those of you that exclusively use your KPA through headphones or computer monitors, if you had a 4x12 sat next to you how inclined would you be to use it? Or does it sound so great through the computer that you would only use a 4x12 if you were performing live?
It depents what you want to do with kpa tbh...since it sounds awesome through the computer I don't use cab, only live and maybe sometimes for fun at home.
If I were you I would wait a little longer and buy powerone!

Should those demos use the rig as is - or should they be fine-tunded to the particular guitar the demoist (a word?) is using...?
It's up to demoist but it could be 50/50.

I own a trademark and have won a domain name case because of it. If someone uses a trademark in the brand / naming, they can get sued. If it is used in the description, along with details of who actually owns the trademark, it is fine. I am not a lawyer though.

Keep in mind that there is a big difference between copyrighted material and trademarked stuff.

Pardon my ignorance, but I cannot help but wonder:
It is ok to upload "free" profiles to the Kemper database using brand names such as "Marshall" and "JTM" etc. but you cannot use these when "selling" profiles?
My lawer said that it is forbidden to use copyrighted material in any form... Andy from TAF and Armin should know more about this topic.
All the rig packs released by kemper (whether the profiles have been done by Kemper themselves or by commercial sellers) have "alternative" names.
Commercial sellers who upload to rig exchange might also be in a gray zone.
See? Even Kemper is using alternative names!
Line 6 Modellers come with those alternative names. But you can download a document where they show pictures of the oriignal amps and cabinets and there they use the proper names and brands. BUT: this document is full of legal stuff like trademark and copyright disclaimers and such.
I assume they have permission to use those like Amplitube.
