That will definitely be useful. Thanks for sharing!

@Dimi84 also provided a video to show how to use the EQ ducking inside the KPA to help with dynamics. It's rather cool, so after you've tried the more obvious suggestions already made, give that a try.
( Dimi, maybe you could point a link to that post with the EQ ducking tutorial or recall the name of the post? )
That said, there are certain limitations within the KPA WRT simultaneously large amounts of preamp and power stage gain, but it doesn't sound like that's what you are experiencing.

Thanks. That's another thing in my "find out what it is" list, along with using the studio eq for more than just low and high cut.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for all the warm welcomes, helpful replies, tips, and sound samples. I really appreciate you all taking the time to respond and I will try every suggestion. I was in a long session yesterday so I haven't been able to respond until today. As Patrick2099 mentioned, I have had better luck with the getting more responsiveness from some of the well known profilers of amps I've tried since posting (Michael Britt and Top Jimi)
@paults, good to see you on here my friend! It's been a long time. We should grab a coffee sometime. Please tell the rest band I said hello. I still have Sully's old Ampeg head. I'll check out your Marshall profiles I found on the rig exchange.
Here's a few thoughts I had in playing with it in the studio for the first time yesterday.
While the band grabbed lunch I did a quick profile of an Orange Tiny Terror with the master cranked wide open (with a Les Paul and V30 Mesa cab) since it was easy to overdrive the low wattage tubes, just to see if I could get a similar response to the Kemper. I only had about 45 minutes to mess with it and this was my first attempt, so please take my comments lightly. While I could get it to sound very close, it wasn't quite as responsive to the volume knob as the real thing and there was less of a compressed "tube" feel. Adjusting the various power tube settings on the Kemper seemed to help a somewhat, but it felt different, or "squishy" like a more traditional compressor device instead of power tube compression. I never got it to match the exact feel, but it was much, much closer than any other digital amp I've ever tried.
I'd say it matched as close as two different models of the same amp or different speakers on the same cab. Listening in a proper studio environment with acoustic treatment and high quality monitors. I could always pick out the Kemper when blindly A/B-ing, but it was subtle. Both sounded good, just slightly different. Either would have been fine for tracking though.
Overall I'm extremely impressed with the sounds of the amps. The effects sound really great too, though I do wish there was a spring reverb emulation. (This seems like an huge omission since there are a lot of plugins that do it pretty well). I don't think almost anyone can tell by the time your audio is mixed, mastered and converted to popular low resolution formats MP3, AAC, Soundcloud, or Youtube.
While I still might prefer cranking real amp, it would be impractical for most applications, plus you'd have to spend a small fortune on boutique amps and effects to do what you can with one Kemper. I'm sure as I get better at dialing in the amp it will only get better.
Thanks again everyone!
Glad things are working out. For more touch sensitive stuff, I have had the best luck with Top Jimi and MBritt. I use different profiles for higher gain stuff. I'm still trying to figure out how to use this thing though. I haven't even messed with Clean Sense or Distortion Sense, yet.

I haven't tried the V2 profiles yet, but those DMTR ones were great! They were spot on for the STP stuff.

Got the EL34 one earlier today =) Going to grab your other one tomorrow. Still want to add a DR to the collection, though.

Anyone have a recommendation for a commercial dual rectifier pack that has some good 90s punk tones? Thanks.

Another quick one, before unplugging the Kemper.

This isn't the best example, but I was trying to get something quickly before the giant storm hit. This is even sloppier than normal.

I really like Bert's acoustic pack. Great quality on that one. Also cool of you to give existing customers a discount. I know it is new, but are there any clips of his Friedman out yet, other than @Eltzejupp whichs sounds wonderful, as usual?

Not sure that this is the case here, but many problems with cleans/low gain being "lifeless" come from playing at low volume. I know it's digital and what not, but if you can hear your guitar acoustically while playing, the volume is too low, way too low. Crank it up and enjoy life! :). Digital or not, it needs to move air, otherwise we shouldn't expect miracles. Blow on your string and see if you get feedback - if yes, the volume is right
p.s. I hate headphones and would never monitor through ones, so I can't comment on this unbiased.
I actually like to sound of the cleans through decent headphones, and I've never liked guitar through headphones on anything.
I'm not fully happy with any cleans on the Kemper or any amp I've played unless it is loud enough to make the speakers move a little. I can do this at lower volume with the Kemper and small monitors than I can with a single or multiple 12 inch speakers in a cab or combo.

I also don't think there is much sense in profiling every slight amp mod there is.
Kemper is accurate, but not that accurate imho, for it to make sense going that route. It could be at some point but not as things stand. Differences are small even between certain kinds of amps, let alone amp mods (unless substantial); and kpa tends to have its own tonal footprint to begin with.
I bought the new jcm/jubilee pack as soon as it came out. It's great. Imho it's the best of what kemper can do for these tones. And they are amazing profiles for sure. The fact that the person profiling is aware of how profiling changes the source tone does allow for a finer approach in terms of getting the kemper to sound more like what is intended.
I'll be doing a video playing some zakk wylde tune with these profiles. Any recommendations as to which track you would like to hear these tones in action?
Cheerios
#1 Solo from No More Tears
#2 Some type of ZW rhythm tone
#3 Solo from Mama I'm Coming HomeThanks!

I think that there may be an issue with the link you posted. It has a box with a diagonal arrow, pointing up in it, just like your other links, but they all work. This one won't let me click on it, for some reason.
This looks like it is working:

Those profiles sound great, though! Damn near all of the profiles I've bought are 800s or Silver Jubilees, of some sort. Looks like there will be some more joining the family. Thanks for making these!

Hello, everyone. It seems like a wonderful community here.
I've had my Kemper for a couple of days now and I'm enjoying playing with the variety of tones it provides. I apologize if this has been covered extensively, but searches of the forum have not yielded the answers I was hoping for.
I'm looking to really get the Kemper to respond like an amp with an overdriven power section. Typically, I crank my amps up pretty hard (often with the assistance of an attenuator if I'm at home) and I can go from great clean sounds to lots of dirt just by rolling the volume up and digging in on the guitar. So far while sampling the variety of profiles out there I haven't been able to achieve this same result. I've tried messing with the power tube sag setting on a few of the profiles but it seems to alway make the cleans get very loud.
I'm especially missing the compression that comes from oversaturated power tubes that makes them very reactive. The volume doesn't really vary from clean to dirty much on most of my tube amps when using this approach. Is there a way to achieve this with the Kemper? Many of the videos I see online seem to show this is possible. Does anyone have any recommendations on settings I could refine on my Kemper? I currently have the distortion and clean sense on 0.
I'm primarily using low to medium to low output pickups on my guitars (Humbuckers like Duncan JB and 59, single coils like Eric Johnson strat pickups, etc.).
I have not profiled my own amps yet, so I don't know if many of the profiles are from amps with less saturated power sections, but I would assume that many of the vintage Marshalls and other amps in that vein would be very reactive since they would probably be cranked up when profiled.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your patience with a noob.
Also, some of the profiles -- especially the professionally made profiles -- seem to have better touch sensitivity. You can probably get an idea of which profiler makers work best for you, by testing out the rig packs. Also, a lot of the profile sellers have additional free profiles available. Some can be found on their websites, and some on this forum.

OK, I'm a hack guitar player for 30+ years (self taught, poorly...), but am taking lessons now, dedicated to improving and loving playing.
I've read other threads on here and elsewhere and I'm 99.9% sure the Kemper will be what I want. FYI I have been following this forum for a few months, read similar threads on here, and elsewhere, researched, etc. but... I just want to get some reassurance! LOL I'm planning on getting the unpowered toaster BTW.
That being said, I just play at home in my home office/man cave. I generally have to play at lower volumes 90% of the time, later at night, etc. I have a 15 year old Marshall DSL401 I bought stupidly not realizing how loud that is (in apartment at the time). Haven't used it in over 2+ years, and have never turned it up past 4. LOL Anyway, I've been strictly playing through Scarlett 2i2 audio interface and amp sims (Bias FX and Amplitube 4), and using JBL LS305 powered studio monitors. I may eventually upgrade the monitors, but they are pretty good to my ear. I will probably upgrade to a Scarlett 6i6 as well. I was able to play a friend's bandmate's Kemper at a rehearsal they had, but it was through a Marshall cab and wouldn't be my setup exactly. Just starting to learn to record as well (mostly for my own critique, and my teacher's benefit)
I play mostly rock, classic rock to hard rock, some blues... Steely Dan to Rush to VH to Metallica. I like being able to get a wide variety of tones, similar tones to artists I like for songs I'm learning, etc.
I guess my one unknown question is just playing at home, will the Kemper be a lot better sounding than Bias FX desktop/Amplitube, with my setup?? My guitar teacher has a large home studio as well, and has like 30+ amps (Marshall, Laney, Splawn, Fender, et al), hundreds of boutique stomps, and does re-amping, etc. I'm thinking I could always use the Kemper and do some profiling of his gear as well, since I don't have my own to profile.
Any insights, advice, reassurance, welcome! LOL Thanks! I'm looking to order in the next week or so. Hoping to be a full-fledged member of the club soon.
John
I'm basically in the same boat as you. I'm self taught (poorly, with a lot of bad habits). I am typically just playing through monitors. I've had my Kemper about a month and a half, and am really enjoying it so far. I've been playing more than I have in years. I am happier with it than others modelers and lower priced tube amps. I don't live somewhere where I could get my money's worth out of bigger, better tube amps.
For desktop VST, I liked Amplitube 4 and Mesa Boogie, but didn't really like anything else. I couldn't get anything I liked out of Bias, without a lot of effort, but others have had more success with it. The HD500x through a DT25 sounds pretty good, to me, but I really have to put a lot of time into the patches. The Kemper, I do very little tweaking or eq, and can get tones I like.
I have some clips on soundcloud of a very below average dude, with normal gear, playing through some hardware and software modelers, if that is any help to you.

(couldn't figure out how to list a playlist directly into the thread)

The pitch control is done by the whammy and with an expression pedal. I had it in slot b and i set it from 0 to +12 and i used both so you get this large whammy effect without breaking the strings. Vivat kemper
That clip you made with the TMS Silver Jubilee is awesome, too! Great playing and great profile!

Congratulations, Nikola!
If your shitty playing is anything to go by, your Profiles should be the shite!
I wish I could find a profile that would make me play like that.

Great job with this, most all of them sound great as one would expect!!!
Just to note, there is a site wide sale going on until next Friday to celebrate my birthday!
also, which of your free Triple Rectos corresponds to which of your packs?

Hi Dallas,
Go to the front panel on your KPA, and push the "Stomp"soft button (located under the A, B, C, D buttons), then hit "Lock". Next push the "Effects" soft button (located under the X, Mod, Delay, Reverb buttons), and then hit "Lock". Now you can select "amp" and browse through your gigs, and the Stomp and Effects sections will remain unchanged.
Once you find a rig you like, make sure you hit "Store" and then "Save As" and give it a new name. Then, you may want to go back and Unlock the sections your previously locked.
Cheers,
JohnThanks a lot! I had been wondering the same thing.

I made a few tracks testing out some of my favorite higher gain free samples from @sinmix, CiliLab ( @Cili ), Live Ready Profiles ( @deadpan ), and @ChopTones. These are all completely stock -- the only knob or button I touched was the noise gate. No eq or effects were used in the DAW, other than attempting to normalize the volume between guitar tracks. All were single-tracked. Guitar was a Schecter C1 Classic, with an old JB in the bridge. Please ignore the very sloppy playing.
I'm still trying to decide which ones are my favorites, but I'm sure I'll end up buying most or maybe all of these, after I test some more. All I know is that these four guys put out some really great profiles. Thanks for taking the time to make them and for releasing the samples.
I also want to give them a try with my EMGs, but I really need to learn how to reamp, using the Kemper. Which ones do you guys think sound the best with the JB?
