C'mon, it can't get better than this.
The greatest band ever (except for the Beatles), and "Pulse", the greatest live concert ever.

Wrong sub forum.
Mine opinion? You would not like to know.
Completely non metal, and not even played on a real guitar...

Otherwise, the whole "Rust in Peace" album.

Absolutely, I agree...this is my other DVD that I always watch.
Another astonishing Gilmour solo.

Anyone who disagrees with this is not because of taste but because of age...................................
Of the dozens of versions I've heard, my favorite is the one from the 1986 Colombian Volcano Appeal Concert. Gilmour is on fire and playing a Charvel, no less!
BTW, here's a recent poll of greatest solos of all time.

Important announcements or Problems and trouble shooting help
About the solo, I love Van Halen's solo on Michael Jackson's "Beat it", Page on Stairway to Heaven and everything played by Blackmore.

Never seen this version before...amazing.
So that's a humbucker in that Chavel?

Amazing version. Is that Simon Phillips on drums?
Awesome, amazing player
So that's a humbucker in that Chavel?
Yep, some sort of EMG.

Yep.
Well I'm kind of more impressed by the mastership & vibrato of this young girl covering this classic track :

You can honestly say you didn't hear that playing with your eyes?
As much as I like Pink Floyd (more a fan of the Syd Barrett era mad lunatics sound), I got to say this is a better solo. I haven't seen it topped or imitated, which is saying a lot these days, with clone guitarist after clone guitarist after guitarist. Those guys are just crawling out of the woodwork like termites, makes us all look bad

Any old fogies distressed by the sound, solo starts at 2:00
Man, I'm an old fart, that song is a '90 if I remember correctly. Wrecked everything written by a tonne of bands that came after them too.
I prefer her vibrato VS her blondness

And this is why they make different flavors of ice cream. We're never going to agree on this.
hm.. really nice title of this thread.. greatest solo of all times.. naturally, it´s very subjective.. but I like threads like this one.. I like many guitar players (Ritchie Blackmore, Allan Holdsworth, Pat Metheny, Eddie Van Halen, Pat Martino, Jim Hall, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Steve Morse, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck ecc) but when I sometimes think which one is really the one I would choose as one and only.. it always finishes with - Ritchie Blackmore..
I also like those I call them a bit "invisible solos".. Temple of the king or Hold on solos.. I call them the true story telling solos.. not 350 000 tones played in teh velocity like Usain Bolt but only few tones played with the great tone and feeling impossible to imitate.. also Allan Holdswoth´s Mr.Berwell or Home solos (and many others).. "out there" are soooooo many great solos.. many of them we know very well.. but I am also sure that out there are so many great guitar players and his solos we even do not know.. for instance, time ago I have purchased book + CD from Buddy Fite.. this is soooo fantastic work IMHO... and do not understand how is possible that this guy is not well known all over the world like others.. hm.. it´s worth each cent!!
so, I would like to draw your attention on this guy and his playing if you do not know him: http://www.amazon.com/Buddy-Fi…_acr_txt?showViewpoints=1
maybe read the reviews..
ps: I also think that Angus Young solos area a bit underestimated.. I was really happy when I read recently in one article on internet that EVH knows to play all of his solos note for note (if this is true I do not know..)
Actually, the solos in "Dogs" are my favourite Gilmour solos, in fact it's my favourite Floyd song...17 minutes of all sorts of genius.
Sorry, no other guitarist or band on our planet can come up with this kind of genius..."Dogs" and Hendrix 'Machine Gun' are basically it for me.
