Crackling sound as notes die away

How's the Profiler connected to your DAW? Be aware you need to have the Profiler as master, 44.1 kHz, 24 bit when going via SPDIF.
-
-
If you solve the problem, please let me know. I've already sent mine in for repair once. They replaced the DSP board and it still does the same thing as yours.
Is it worse on some profiles than others? Do you play high gain patches at all? If so, do you notice it being extremely worse?

Hi thanks for replies
Here's the settings on my Focusrite Saphire firewire soundcard >>> https://www.dropbox.com/s/bc36…5tgzd/20131120_194530.jpg
I tried changing setting from internal sync to spdif but made no difference.
Can't see where to set the profiler as master?
It only happens on this profile so far which is surprising as it's a clean one & is unfortunate as I really like it. -
Setting the Sync source to SPDIF is mandatory when using the SPDIF connection. This setting makes the Profiler the master. Try setting the samplerate to 48kHz and then back to 44.1kHz to make sure the clocks have synced and locked. Can you provide the rig in quiation so we could check if the issue is reproducable?
-
Hell-G is right about the need to set the Sync on your soundcard to SPDIF. No need to change anything in the Profiler because it is always set to be the Master. But the artifacts in your recording do not sound like a sync problem to me. Dropouts due to unsynced digital audio sound more like supershort spikes and not like the noise tail that i can hear on some of your notes.
It would be great if you could post the rig that shows these symptoms -
Thanks again for replies. Really helpful. Here's the profile.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/g6n8…013-11-20%2000-11-10.kiprNow the crackling is gone. Thanks for tip. I changed to spdif sync & I think that did it. Though if I change back to internal sync the crackling is still gone. Must have kicked things into line for want of a better phrase. Or there was something else going on!

Don't change back to internal sync when using the profiler. The artifacts will reappear exactly when you don't need them.

OK will stick with spdif sync thanks.
Incidentally whatever sample rate I select on the focusrite mixer console it defaults back to 44.1kHz. Won't stay on 48, 88.2 or 96Khz. Anyone know why that is ? -
Well, now I'm confused, because my profiler gives me the same problem, but I've never used the SPDIF ever. Is there any chance that the SPDIF settings could affect profiler noise even if I'm not using those I/Os?
-
I don't know the answer to that one. But what output do you use?
-
XLR to pc, monitor out to a Peavey Nashville 400 combo, and occasionally the headphone out. All outputs give me the crackle from your test recording, though.
-
The test is a recording of the crackle so it will be heard through anything.

hahahahah
Forgive me for not speaking clearly enough. What I meant was that my KPA makes the same noise that yours did in your test recording.

The Profiler is fixed to 44.1kHz, not possible to change that. -
Right thanks 44.1's OK anyway I guess. CD quality.
But the crackling's back even with spdif set as sync! However I've found what's causing the crackling. I turned all the stomps off one by one, then the cab, then EQ & no change.
Then I switched the amp off. Mesa single recto by Bremen. That stops the crackling!
So how an amp profile could be the cause I don't know. A shame as it sounds great.
Stop press. Having investigated further It's the pick setting at -5.
If I set to 0 crackling goes. That explains why another profile I have with that same amp doesn't crackle. Because pick is set to 0 on that rig!
Out if interest I changed amp to '62 Electro' to see if it's something to do with the mesa combined with pick at -5.
I find with pick at 0 no crackling. Then turn pick to -5 & crackling returns. So it doesn't seem to be amp specific.
So maybe that's the answer to other users crackling problems?
I wonder if Kemper know pick set to -5 causes crackling ? -
Hey, glad to hear you solved it. But what a strange issue. I'll try if any other rig will show that behaviour with Pick at -5.0.
-
Thanks Hell-G.
If yours does it then that will show it's not specific to my kemper.
Incidentally I found whether -5 or +5. Either causes crackling.
In fact having changed amp again to 'Marshal 67x' I find crackling's back, but guess what. Pick on that amp's set to +0.9 so just that small amount of pick of less than 1 is enough to cause it!
So from now on I'll forget the pick control. It stays on '0'.
Don't think it's that important anyway. -
Can't reproduce the crackle. I tried several rigs from clean to high gain. Can you share the rig via dropbox so i can try it?
