Annybody knows the equipment from the early Gonzo-Sound?

  • Hi there,

I would like to ask if somebody knows which equipment were used by Gonzo in the early days of Böhse Onkelz? I'm interested in the sound of e.g. "Kneipenterroristen" or "Es ist soweit".

When I had to guess, I would say it has toe be a JCM, maybe boosted, but I'm not sure.

I don't want to start a political discussion or something else, I'm just interested in the sound of the guitar.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Ich glaube ein JCM.

    'JCM' isn't a very precise statement ;)

besides the more obvious JCM800, 900 and 2000 distinction, there are also differences within the series of the most likely candidate, the JCM800, itself.
last but not least, the cabinet plays a huge role in the sound produced.

no idea how this information can be obtained, tho.
maybe some live pictures will reveal some info.

  • Yeah, I didn't find any live-pictures. I can remember, that he used to play through a Marshall into a Mesa Power amplifier.

I thought about a JCM 800 and yes, of course, the rest of the chain is sculpting the sound a lot.

I read about changing his equipment for every tour and record.

However, the special "ringing" in the sound of the early recordings could be an effect or the glowing tubes of the mesa amplifier. It sounds very interesting to me.

    Thanx !
