Expression Pedal

  • Hello everyone,

I have decided on two separate routes for my foot switch (the Boss FS-6 http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=686 for simple setups and either the Liquid Foot+ Jr+ or 12+ http://www.famcmusic.com/store/LF-JR for my advanced setup ). Now I am deciding on the expression pedal(s) to pair with it.

I am looking for quality and I have a few options I am looking at, but I am open to suggestions:

    1) Mission Engineering SP1-LF ( http://missionengineering.com/?product=sp1-lf )
    2) Mission Engineering VM-PRO-PZ ( http://missionengineering.com/?product=vm-pro-pz )
    3) Mission Engineering EP-1-KP ( http://missionengineering.com/?product=ep1-kp )
    4) Korg XVP10 ( http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/XVP10 )
    5) Boss FV-500H ( http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=697 )
    6) Dunlop Volume Pedal (X) DVP3 ( http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/dvp3-volume-x )

I like the idea of using the Mission toe switch to access an effect. Can the toe switch be used to switch between volume and wah?

I am unsure of which Mission pedal to go with (if I go that route). Is it better to route the SP1-LF to the LF+ switch or route the EP1-KP direct to the Kemper? I also use the Kemper for acoustic guitar...would this bring the VM-PRO-PZ into the running?

I have previously used the Korg XVP10 with a keyboard in the past and I find it to be a comfortable pedal, but it lacks the switch.

The Boss and Dunlop pedals are mentioned based on solid reviews.

Looking forward to hearing your opinions! Thanks!

  • I have the mission pedal and the LF+12+ and would highly recommend that combination.

The KPA will allow you to switch between the wah and volume pedal controls without using a foot switch. It's a personal preference if you like it or not. I forget which exact screen where it is located, I think under rigs, and look for wah to volume and check that. Or you can do wah to pitch if you like. I really like that the KPA has that feature set built in.

With the mission pedal and LF, you can program the toe switch to be whatever you want it to be. It can be something totally separate from the pedal feature all together.

If you go to YouTube and look at my channel, username joptunes I have a couple of videos of my setup, and one that shows the switching between wah and volume using one pedal.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • I'm curious about how the Mission ones compare and need to check them out. Do they all have the ability to toe click between volume and wah direct to profiler?

"Tone is in the fingers" is not a necessary response to anything that I might type on any internet forum threads. Thank you.

  • I have two BOSS FH500 with my G-System. Rock solid. Never had any problems. I like them. And I have DVP3 on my pedalboard. I bought it because of it's smaller size compared to the BOSS. I like that pedal as well.

  • I have tried the Boss FV-500H and it was good, but maybe too bulky, and ultimately I went for a ME SP1, and I love it. More compact than the Boss, comparable throw, very silent.

  • The switching from wah to volume can be done with any pedal. It's a function within the KPA that recognizes if the wah effect is turned off, it will automatically switch over to volume control. So any pedal with a toe switch or separate switch that turns the wah stomp block off will work.

Using the switch on the Mission pedal to toggle between volume and wah is a great function. Thanks for the info!!

As far as the Mission pedals go, do they have the same sweep range/throw as a classic crybaby wah?

Also, of the 3 Mission pedals I mentioned in my original post, which one would be preferable for my situation (also previously explained)?

Edit: The Mission Engineering VM-PRO-PZ is a volume pedal and not an expression pedal, so it is out of the running.
