No, not the classic album
Hi all,
So l was moving all my music stuff in the car, kpa, 2 prestige guitars, remote, cases, floorboard, laptop and all the trimmings. On the way, stopping off for a burger, as you do, it dawned on me how much money and personal valuel had stuffed in the car. I'm no pro and don't play out but this really got me thinking.
How do you guys protect your gear?
piece of mind?

...by going through the drive through, instead of spending an hour in the restaurant
There are many little things that add up:
Don't leave your gear in the car, and if you do, don't make it easy to see.
Don't have bumper stickers/license plates/window stickers that advertise what is in the car.
At the gig venues, always have someone watching the stage when the band is not on it.
After the gig, keep a very close watch on everything.
Politely say "No, thanks!" when strangers offer to help the band load out. -
Cheers Paults, all very good and common sense points. I can see being solo would be an incredible strain. Do any of you get a lesser guitar to play out? One that wouldn't devastate you, if it walked or got wrecked? And what about insurance? I know this is a bit of a negative topic but surely a valid one?

I had an instrument insurance for more than 10 years which can be really helpful in case of a theft.
Nowadays I do everything that Paul advised. -
I think you mean "Peace of mind". Thought you were about to go into a diatribe of some kind.
I like what paults suggested. It's kind of like the X-Files, where they said "Trust No One", except it could be abbreviated to "Trust None" where gear is concerned.
You'd be surprised at the prices people will sell even the best gear so that they can go and load themselves up on crack or whatever it is they're on as soon as possible.
Insurance is a good idea, but the best is to always keep your eye on the ball. Don't let your guard down.

It's all covered on a rider on our homeowner's insurance, with replacement value coverage. I made sure my agent has a list of all our gear (mine & my 17 yo son's). My guitar gear is worth a lot more than my car!
