I understand where viabcroce's coming from with his view of CS.
It's that blasted input LED - CS definitely makes that light change, which leads many to assume that it's some kind of trim.
Stated use, of course, is to level cleans distorted sounds. DS on the other hand is just a global gain control for distorted profiles. Shouldn't be any confusion about that.

I know it's not designed to work perfectly across different profiles, but I had hopes that it could get them closer.

Understandable!! But real easy to just adjust the volume, cab volume, rig volume, etc. on the louder (or softer ones) and hit the save button. Bingo all good, I think

DS is not for leveling the volume of different profiles (this is what rig volume is for). It is for leveling clean against distorted sounds of the same profile.
