I've read a few threads where this was discussed but never really found a solution, unless I missed it. Is there a fix for this "cabless" distortion that happens occasionally after changing presets?

Welcome.
Please describe what your problem is.
I didn't get it from your post. -
Occasionally when I change presets it sounds like the cab is off for a few seconds and then it goes back to normal. I'm on the latest firmware.

I guess my unit is a dud???

Do you mean switching profiles? No sure what exactly you are doing. How old were the threads that were related to you issue, you may have been better off to post under one of those. I'm sure someone will chime in once you elaborate on exactly what you are doing when you don't hear the cab doing its part.
-
Like I said, I have about 8 favorite profiles, I often switch from one to the next as I'm playing. Occasionally when I change to another profile it sounds like there is no cab for the first few seconds, then it goes back to normal.

Are you using version 3.2.0 or 3.2.1?
The Post announcing 3.2.1 indicates
This brandnew release fixes "two second artifacts" after switching Rigs

3.2.1 is it possible the update didn't take? It's showing that during startup.

FYI as far as I know this thing still happens when changing presets even in 3.21. It happens to me as I'm using Rig Manger (computer librarian) and not very often. Since 3.21 is still in Beta, I personally don't mind as it only happens when it's connected through USB, but your unit is not a dud that's for sure. I'm sure the issue will be fixed at some point as it's being addressed, unfortunately, even though 3.21 was specifically addressing this issue and it minimized the times it happen, it's still not a complete cure, at least in my case. -
Hmmm, I always have it hooked up via USB. I'll disconnect it next time I play and see if it happens.
