FS/FT Suhr Modern Satin Pro HSH

  • A little background: So last year I decided I would take guitar lessons and develop my guitar playing as I actually started with the guitar first. I sold a few of my basses and bought 3 guitars that would cover most if not all the bases for me. Fast forward to today, I got to take a couple of lessons online initially, but had to stop due to schedule constraints with my teacher that never got worked out. At this point the guitars are basically as new with only a few hours of play.

The guitars have never left my home and have less than 5 hours of play time between the 2. Single owner of these as I bought the Luke III (Hanging on to the Luke III at this time) from Sweetwater last year and the Suhr Modern from a licensed seller.

    Thank you for your time!

  • I'm Suhr-prised you wanna sell this baby, mate.

The Satins, with their mahogany bodies and necks, sing like there's no tomorrow and nail classic hard-rock and glam-metal tones superbly. So much vibe and character. The cleans, as one might imagine, are very-warm but not on the dullish side, especially in the attack area, as I've perceived from the LIII.

Lastly, I find the lack of muddiness from these things super-impressive. I wrestled with custom super Strats back in the '90s, always choosing mahogany for the bodies but not the necks, and even without mahogany necks, I found they all produced muddy dirty tones. Not so with the Satin, where I in fact expected even more muddiness than those Strats produced due to the neck's being mahogany as well.

Oh well, you have your reasons, but I must say I'm Suhr-prised anyone would part with one of these puppies as they sound nothing like the chimey, standard Moderns, and in fact provide the perfect compliment to a thinner, more-chimey-sounding Strat.

  • You're making me not want to sell this baby anymore haha. You are correct in all counts, it's just that I've been digging the Suhr Classic T sound for a while and have this itch I'd like to scratch.

In all reality, I'm a bass player first...so I should realistically only be looking to keep one guitar to fiddle with.

  • Ha!

I'm a bass player first too; what would we know about guitars, eh?

Still that thing's a beast, man. I'd seriously consider keeping it to compliment a chimey Strat or the Tele. IMHO it's the perfect alternative for someone who's not a fan of LPs, for whatever reason, but who still wants a decent helping of that midrange, woody warmth in order to compliment a chimney / twangy / quacky Strat or Tele.

Sorry if I'm not helping. I know how you feel. Maybe spend some more time experimenting with it. The bridge HB, on that particular guitar, is something to behold for classic rock, and never sounds harsh, ever. The ML SC is superb and so versatile, and the neck HB is OTT full of character, fatness, and LP lead goodness... IMHO. But hey, you wouldn't listen to a bass player, right? LOL
