EQ Low Pass Filter / High frequencies Cut

  • Hi there,

Out of curiosity I checked one thing. I loaded gainy rig with gain at 6.4 (EVH5150 with V30/G20 cab) and I started to play around with High Cut in Studio EQ (slot X -after stack).

I set High cut to ~6.5kHz to remove unwanted fizz.

Then I set High Cut to ~2kHz and the sound got "muddy", but when I scroll Treble and Presence stack EQ knobs to the max, they affect the sound.

When I set Treble and Presence to 5.0 when High Cut is at 2 kHz should the sound be still affected?

  • The High Cut frequency indicates the cutoff point of the lowpass filter.
Depending on the filter type, the energy in the frequency band one octave above this cutoff point is attenuated by 6dB, 12dB, or 24dB - to name just the most common types.

Setting the High Cut at a frequency does not mean that everything above this frequency is removed.
