Putting new USB stick in Kemper, asks if I want to format, Yes/No buttons do nothing, Kemper hangs

  • First time connecting a USB. I let it sit for about six or seven minutes, turned it off (screen still frozen) and once it greyed out I turned it on again, plugged in the USB and it said "external device" or whatever. Great! Plugged USB back into my PC and the USB was full of files with non-alphabet character names and I couldn't copy anything to it.

    Ideas?

  • I'm betting your unit didn't freeze, but was busy formatting.

The larger the capacity, the longer the formatting time will be. Obvious, perhaps, but the Kemper takes a Helluva lot longer than your PC or Mac.

When it comes to the Kemper it makes no sense to use a large-capacity stick. 1GB would actually be enough IMHO, so my advice is to use the smallest you can get your hands on. 4 or 8GB won't take long to format, but the time really blows out the bigger the stick, so bear this in mind.
