I know that everyone has their heroes and yours aren't mine. Still there are quite a few in this collection that I just don't get and more so don't know why these weren't included. Billy Joe Armstrong has a tone that someone wants?...

Billy Jo Armstrong's rhythm tone is exceptional. People don't like him for some reason. But the opening to When I Come Around is but one killer example. Heck....MXR sells a pedal called the Green Day Dookie Drive.
As for Lifeson.......while It'd be nice which era? I can think of four distinct tones....before 1980 and only discussing dirt.

Maybe the same reason people don't like Nickelback. Chad Kroeger is a fantastic song writer IMO. Remind Me, Far Away, Side of a Bullet, Savin Me, etc. are great songs. Like other bands with a distinct singer, you can use many different guitar tones from song to song but still sound identifiable. So, locking in on one tone may not be desirable (but worked for EVH).
