Why not try both approaches for a given application and go with what works?

I'm a total noob regarding the Kone, but my personal favorite is a Studio profile in Imprint mode. Guess you just have to go through the profiles and hear for yourself, what works best for the given application.
Maybe you use Studio rigs, turn off the Cab, and insert an imprint?
If you turn off the cab, you won't hear the imprint ! 
If you turn off the cab, you won't hear the imprint !
This is like one of those conundrums that people take years to contemplate in monasteries ...
The entire point of the Kone is to provide the amp-in-the-room sound.
Full-range mode does not do that.
Frankly, I ignore studio vs direct and use the profile I like. Imprint to the Kone, cab-sim to FOH.
