Does anyone have any EQ stomp settings / guidance that would be useful for preserving a fairly bright tone while taming piercing highs, particularly prevalent on leads played high on the neck? Many thanks!

try the lowpass filter with a resonance setting of 0.
use frequency to adjust, most likely you'll find what you're looking for in the appr. 9-10 range
(you might have to turn down the volume setting of the filter) -
The piercing highs might also be the result of a specific sound chain. How are you amplifying/loudspeaking your rig?
