I'm no profiling guru but I'm sure someone will chime in
Btw... which amp did you score, or is it a surprise?

Thank all..Congratulations! I'd start with an SM57, that is pretty much the universal guitar micing amp.
When trying to find the sweet spot on your amp, put your head to the cab and move around, you should be able to find where on the cone it sounds best. Position the mic there. Then experiment with angle and proximity.
You have many fun hours ahead of you!

Put the Mic through a Neve board!
How's about a HiWatt. Something Who-like!

Profiling = speaker mic'ing
if you know how to properly mic an amp you're good to go.
select a similar sounding Profile as starting point so you can reference your mic'ed tone to a Profile you like.
the Profile selected has absolutely no impact on the resulting Profile.hth

will do and thank you.. going to try another amp to just get started while waiting on tubes,,
thanks again.. -
How about getting a loadbox and profiling that? Then you can use impulse responses to get whatever cab you want. Two Notes Wall of Sound is pretty cool! Or you can use the cabs already in your Kemper

Loadboxes are terrible for profiling. For a test, run the alien spaceship noises through a regular cab while monitoring the levels of the channel in your interface. Then do it with a load box. You'll notice a particular difference in the middle profiling stage where it's hissing noises.Sure, it'll have *something* come out. But it's not like the real amp or even the sound of the amp through the load box itself.
