Can we have a clip of you singing that? You owe us a RECORDING!!
haha,
trust me, you don't want that!

I'm no The Who expert, but I'm thinking Vox as well.
There are many great profiles in the RX, not just the 'usual' AC30s but also profiles of a Defiant etc.
.... so like... I KNOW you guys had to record bit of these amps while you profiled them.. just had too... wouldn't be right if ya didn't... sooooo... time to give up some noise, don't ya think just a couple of teaser samples???
great idea!
and since you asked so nicely...
expect the first teaser sample by tomorrow
here are a few 'atmo' pics - hope you like them

I think I've worked it out....I thought the stomp would change from saying Wah Wah to WWah Cry, but I think it will always say Wah Wah as in that's the effect for that stomp slot.....but when you turn the browse button it is now on the particular model of wah you chose......not the most intuitive thing in the world....but I'm still learning....
I can try it out properly later in the studio....at the moment it's just sat on a chair in my house.....being admired!
but you don't choose a different model.
the Wah effect was equipped with all the parameters you need to emulate pretty much any wah pedal out there.
the local presets you select with the browse knob are 'just' settings - but they all have the very same effect/model as a starting point.
select 'Cabinet' (click and hold the button)
turn 'Browse'
you can choose between 'Local Presets' or 'From Rigs', you might want to have 'Autoload' (in the same screen) checked
please don't refer to 'profiling' as 'sampling'.
it's incorrect and might confuse someone.
thanks
Guess The Amp!

this one is quite hard to figure out.
saying that it is a fantastic amp and a great addition to the pool of available profiles won't help much, I know. to my knowledge, there hasn't been a profile of this manufacturer available in the Rig Exchange or earlier Rig Packs.

Don, is there some heavier stuff going on? something '6'-ish on the Kemper scale (which is a great idea, by the way. It's scaled perfectly)?
oh yes!
the profiles are spread out nicely from 3.7 to 7.9
Display MoreI can't believe you used P90's to capture those tones.
Wouldn't the noise come through the Profile.
I had a Guitar just like that sold it due to the noise of P90's.
Gezza.
P90s are fantstic pickups - probably my favourite kind, if I had to choose.
Fat, yet articulate, pretty much a best of between a HB and a more conventional SC.
As was already pointed out - any noise picked up by the uh... pickups won't be part of the profile.
After all, the guitar plays no role in the profiling process itself, that's just the Profiler sending out it's test signal.
The profile also works well with other SCs (Tele!) and HBs, by the way.
btw. it's not the pickups that are noisy - they just (again) uh... pick it up in a noisy environment.
(and hat can usually be canceled by rotating your chair until the noise goes away)

A Les Paul with P90 pickups was used to set the amp module.

The Profile has a Gain rating of '4' on the Kemper-Scale and a Definition of 8.2.
I'll record a few notes for you guys soon.
so Don.. from all of this, do you have a favorite profile??.. I know, I know.. they're all great... but.. are there a couple that just stand out as amazing?? what were the combinations?
so tough to make a call like that.
I absolutely love the Extreme Pornograffitti album, so the ADA profile of that setting with the Furman EQ pushing it had me excited even before the profiling session started, but then MW just kept on producing wonderful tonez in that effortless seeming way that only a true pro manages. It was like watching a outstanding chef in his personal kitchen.
Right now (today) there's a Salvation Mods profile that really speaks to me although/because it shows EVERYTHING about your guitar playing.
I bought a Tele with MW while I was in Tennessee (more on that later) and that guitar with this profile is very, very gratifying, while at the same time it pushes you quite a bit as a player, since it translates all the little nuances mercilessly.
We also have a profile of a certain major amp manufacturer, whose amps (and therefore profiles) weren't exactly on my 'first call' list.
This amp, in the hands of MW changed my mind completely.
There's lot's of stuff to discover, and I promise I'll give you guys more facts about the amps & cabs involved starting tomorrow.
Thank you for bearing with me.

ladies and gentlemen - The Sentinel
the device that pairs amps and cabs
[Blocked Image: http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e229/donelectro/MW1_3206blog05_zps38b312fe.jpg]
right below the sentinel is the legendary Furman EQ, that helped shape so many classic rock guitar tones.
(hint: it was used in the profiling session is exactly the same way!)
and here's a nice pic of MW working his magic...

haha...
there is so much to cover that I'll be brief - for now.
yes, there are only one and a half models of fuzz pedals in the Profiler (the Muff being the half for me, since it's kind of an distortion/fuzz mix), but...
you have three different waveshapers (soft, hard and waveshaper) which can give you great modern fuzz type results by themselves or really open up possibilities when combined with other dirt pedals.
also, there is the RectiShaper, which is the 'octave up' part of an Octavia, meaning you can add the classic analog octave up effect to any pedal or amp you like. cool? cool!
and last but not least there is the Analog Octaver which gives you 1 or 2 octaves below the original signal, but in an analog, imperfect as opposed to pitchshifter kind of way. Add possible pre and post EQs to the mix and welcome to 'build your own fuzz'.
Of course you can profile your fuzzes in front of an amp, or a poweramp or direct and add a cabinet later (can be interesting) and there are already cool fuzz profiles in the Rig Exchange, like Paco's Musket Fuzz or my Wide Fuzz Octave profile, which is based on the criminally underrated Nobels fuzz pedal.
see you 'round
This is fantastic, Don! Thank you!
Do you think it's possible to get pictures of the microphones at other positions during the profiling process?
I think it would make this thread a very handy resource on how to profile like the pros, which is something a lot of us out here would find invaluable.
I will disclose all information - cabinets, speakers, mics - with pictures as this thread progresses
the basic setup, like MW already stated in interviews, is deceptively simple:
a Royer R121, angled 45 degrees downward (!), dead center in front of one speaker, a couple of inches away
another mic - mostly a large diaphragm condenser - in front of another speaker.
Not much love for the SM57 at WireWorld, I'm afraid, haha
the key however is to know the ideal combination of amp, cabinet, speakers and mics, so that they complement each other.
know what you're going for tone-wise, experiment, don't fall for hyped products, trust your ears.
^ that's at least what I took from this
here's a shot of the mixing console, which will give you one or two more amp names

while you can clearly read the name of the manufacturer, this amp was a surprise to me. while being familiar with the eqs and compressors, I didn't know he also made guitar amps.
