Does use of Performance Mode mean longer boot time and less available rig storage?

I have had my KPA for a few months now and have just over 500 rigs in Browser Mode from which favourites are beginning to emerge and midi program change numbers are being slowly allocated.

As I delete rigs, I add new ones so sometimes its one step up and two steps back.

With 500+ rigs, boot up time is slow and I aim eventually to get down to 128 rigs in browser mode to match the available midi program change numbers.

I am also about to start using performance mode and, from what I have read, the rig files saved in each performance slot are separate copies of the rig files held in browser mode, modified, if need be, to match each part of the song represented by that performance.

Does this mean an even longer wait whilst the KPA is booting up?

I also believe that there is a storage limit of 1000 rig files on the KPA, so does this limit include total files held in both the browser and performance modes?

Can wiser members of the forum please advise?

The 1000 rig limit does not include the rigs in Performance mode. There is memory reserved for them separately.

If boot time is an issue for you I'd suggest you unload all unnecessary rigs/profiles from your profiler and go check them out via Rig Manager.

Hi Ingolf,

I am working towards keeping 128 rigs in browse mode for midi purposes and thereby speed up boot time.

Then I wondered if keeping duplicate variations on those (up to 5x 125?) in performance mode would then undo all my good work!

What's the reasoning behind this Ingolf? I thought a rig in PM "weighted" just like a rig in BM in terms of loading/booting time. Unless the PM "population" is loaded when you switch to PM and not at boot time, which I don't know.

Frankly speaking I don't 'know' in fact, it's just my observation.
And perhaps I created some pseudo- logic from the '1000 rigs barrier' that doesn't affect performance rigs.
Maybe some of the Kemper staff can chime in?

I would also sort out the cabs you don't need and any other stuff you're not after ...
On the other hand I can't imagine why the boot time is such an important criteria ...

In the olden days, when there was not a rig limit, my Kemper took longer to boot with 2000 or so rigs than it does now.

It still boots as fast as a tube amp warms up

From what I remember, the 1000 rig limit was added for two reasons:
1) to reserve room for the Performances
2) to reserve room for new, planned features.

I don't think you'll experience much of a difference in boot times by eliminating a few profiles. Maybe a few seconds faster, but I don't think clearing out a bunch of good profiles is worth that sacrifice. I have about 600 rigs and start up time is about 30 seconds, perfectly acceptable while I'm d*cking about with my cables and other gear on stage during sound check.

Be interesting to hear everyone's boot up times. 30 seconds is good.
Mine is currently about 50secs with 384 rigs and 20 performances/slots.

I'd not expect any surprise here, boot time will be a fixed amount + a quote proportional to the number of profiles loaded.
