Hey, what model Genelec's are you using? How do you like them? I was thinking about upgrading my monitors and they are definitely on my list.
-
@'Webb
Hi
Genelec 8020a, they are exquisite. I can't recommend them enough, worth every penny. My only regret was I hadn't bought them sooner. -
Hey Webb, if you can afford it, pop the Opals on your list too man.
Can't say enough good things about 'em. They're over-engineered to the max, neutral-sounding and yet still exciting to mix on. If you ever do EDM you'll find the bass accuracy and ridiculous headroom insanely wonderful too.
Interestingly, there's an output-level knob that goes from 1 to 5. Haven't gone past "1" yet and doubt I ever will. Ridiculous.
-
I used to own Adam A7's which were a great value for the money, since I've upgraded to the Genelec I've really loved them.
There are definitely a lot of good options to consider besides the Genelec, but these are aren't going anywhere.
-
Yeah, same here.
I had my heart set on the A7s for quite some time before I decided to go the whole hog and save for the Opals. Took 6 or 7 years(!), but was worth every penny.
Maybe A7s would be perfect for Webb, depending on whether or not they'd be an upgrade from whatever he's running.
-
^ thanks for the info. I just added the Opals to my list (although I'd have to see if I can stretch the budget a little for those).
Other monitors on my list include:
Genelec 8030B
Adam A7X
Neumann KH120Looking for a second set to use in addition to my Yamaha HS80's which I actually like.
-
Hey no worries, Webb.
A thought: As much as you like the '80s, I guarantee you that you won't miss 'em for the Opals; the accuracy and naturalness is there of course, but there's also mojo and excitement whilst mixing, which I'm guessing is partly why you want to hang on to the '80s.
With this in mind, you might be easier-able to stretch that budget if you let go of 'em.
Don't get me wrong - I'd like to replace my 17+ year-old Alesis 720DSPs (home stereo) with a pair of '80s; it's just a matter of time and budget, but of course in an ideal world, IMHO, a set of Opals as a home stereo would provide more punch and excitement than I could handle!
-
I like the idea of having two sets of monitors if i were doing professional mixes. I would love a set of old school NS10's
-
It doesn't really make sense, though, unless they are drastically different. For example, a pair of near-fields and a single Auratone-style single driver box for checking mono compatibility. Or near-fields and a pair of cheap PC speakers, if you're mixing for multimedia etc.
-
Sam's not only very good-looking... but he's right. Majorly-different is what you want. Reduces the number of locations / setups required for mix-checking. Apparently with enough experience one can get away with just one accurate set, something I'll be aiming for myself.
Still, if you'd love a set of NS10s you wouldn't be alone; I myself wanted a set for perhaps 25 years, but my Opals "grew me out" of the belief I needed them.

Hi, I received my Kemper+Remote one week ago and have been working hard to make a case and small pedalboard. As I currently have a huge Tube Amp (Mesa Boogie Roadking) and perhaps the largest pedalboard in the country (I will post a picture), I though that if I go the Kemper direction, I go all the way and will work with IEM and no monitor on stage. So therefore my setup looks as follows (you can click on the picture to enlarge)
Kemper Rack - Front
[Blocked Image: http://s5.postimg.org/bjcc8w6ab/Kemper_2.jpg]Kemper Rack - Back
[Blocked Image: http://s5.postimg.org/r3jpzfger/Kemper_1.jpg]Pedalboard (still need to attach the wires)
[Blocked Image: http://s5.postimg.org/56x6z2383/Kemper.jpg]And my current pedalboard...

@EdRaket Great rig! How do you power the stuff in the rack? Do you have a picture of the inside? Which Sennheiser IEM do you have?
Hi, in the rack there is not so much to power up: just the KPA and the IEM + one outgoing power con at the back. It is just soldering the cables...I do not have a phone from the inside available, will make it later.
I use the Sennheiser EW300 G3 IEM. I only started using IEM 3 weeks ago and so far I am happy with it. I am stil getting used to it, but think it is definitely the way forward. This Sennheiser works great and is very solid. My KPY goes straight to the mixer, I have the IEM and no monitor on stage. Not much too carry and less loud noise on stage. About the Sennheiser. You have to be aware however about the country that you are in. You can buy this unit with different frequency ranges, for use in different countries. -

Remote and EV-5 fit perfectly on the pedal-board. Which make and model is this?

I chose this lightweight case , low cost and perfect dimensions for remote " Pedaltrain Metro 20 " for one expression and you can chose Pedaltrain Metro 24 for two expression.
