What do you guys use for a backup rig/amp live? I used to carry an old Pod but I sold it and never really liked it. What else is out there that is within the $200 range? (direct and pedalboard is preferable)
Backup rigs?

I still have my old AMT SS-20 in the gig bag. Very small pedal that has a pretty decent emulated out. Clean, Drive and Lead channels. Sounds pretty damn good actually. I put a lower gain tube in it to make it less aggressive and used it regularly for a year or two - then I bought the KPA.
You've reminded me I need to play that sucker more often though.. -
I keep my 11R around. Used, I've seen them for around $300. A little higher than what you are looking to pay, but the sound quality and features are pretty good all in all (IMO).

Zoom MS50G. Sounds good and would get me through any gig.

Thanks for the suggestions! I actually found another old pod and fb express pedal in a closet here...probably just gonna go with that and save some cash.

I use my old RP355. It was my primary gigging unit for years, it lets me use up/down patch navigation like I'm used to, and it has XLR jacks.
-
I use a Zoom G3 but the MS50G is even smaller and lighter. I like the idea to have my backup rig to fit in my guitar gigbag pocket!
BTW I still never had to use it!

I bet if you got creative with cabling, IKmultimedia or Jam up Pro on an IOS device would prolly work too.

I have Amplitude on my phone, in case of emergency.
I've never needed it, but still remind myself that "airplane mode" is very important when a phone is connected to the PA

Haha, yes good point on airplane mode, that could make for some Spinal Tap moments!

My band uses my phone to play the click tracks, one gig when I was feeling a bit under the weather, I forgot to switch airplane mode on and half way through Jump by Van Halen my phone started ringing through the PA and in the drummers IEM's it was a very strange but funny moment for the audience lol. So I always make sure airplane mode is on before we start the set

I just order the Logidy UMi3 3 switch USB midi pedal and noticed the convolution pedal as well. The convolution pedal could be used for backup as the new firmware does speaker emulation. This and a distortion pedal and maybe some other effects pedals would be a simple back-up.

LoL! Somebody get the damn phone!!!!
I use an iPad with Bias as a backup. Have to remember to put in on that mode or it will bing all night with messages!

I also use a Zoom G3 or G5 as a backup, this depends on the band/gig. So far never needed it, but these units are pretty cool and easy to use. The sounds of the Marshall 1959 is actually very good and the fxs are great too.

Thinking about getting an old PodXT for backup use, as the eurekaprom also has functionality for this. Can be had for cheap, and would probably do the trick.
