How are you guys refining when making direct amp profiles? Do you leave the setup as is and just click refine and play it through the DI/cab? Or do you have to adjust anything to refine?
refining during Direct Amp Profiles

I'm having trouble with refining with Direct Amp Profiles, the profile simply becomes muffled and unusable after refining. i've been in contact with Kemper support about it.
They tell me you probably shouldn't need to refine it with Direct Amp Profiles.

Good to know...the first one I did I didn't refine and it seemed ok. I tried a couple more and refined and they seemed to be the same.

This is interesting, as it'd be a lot faster to create a bunch of profiles if you can skip refining. Let's experiment...

Yeah, very curious on this. When they changed the profiling algorithm slightly (was that 2.8?) I noticed the refining worked differently compared to before, or at least I had to change how I refined to get "closer" results. I DID however always think refining was necessary with high gain profiles. Let's see what happens with 3.0X...

It will still likely be needed to fine tune Studio Profiles.

Direct profiled a Budda amp yesterday and have to say I prefer the studio profiles we did. They sound more alive if that makes sense. The direct profiles need some eqing and tweaking to match the studio profile tone. The way the head, speakers, and mics work together gives it that finished sound. Direct you have to adjust the amp controls on the Kemper even though all controls on the amp are set at noon. The key is to crank it up like any rock amp! Will be releasing the pack soon.

I did some testing, and I do think it is necessary to refine di profiles.
I did two profiles. One with no refining, and one I did refine. The profile I refined was spot on.No Refining:

I did a test as well with a DSL and found not much of a difference between refining and not refining. I wonder if it depends on the amp?
