While sometimes we want to capture the sound of an amplifier in isolation, our mic setups often will pick up elements of the room as well.
I have very little experience with profiling, but this product by sE Electronics seems like it could be of use while micing up amps.

That looks very interesting. I wonder if you might be able just to make do with corrigated plastic sheeting backed with a PU foam absorbent layer. You could cut a hole for the dynamic mic.

It apparently has a few layers, and I believe an isolating air gap, which would be essential to reduce outside sounds. But I think there are a few other products in the market like this which could be modified for similar use.
Agreed. Take the basic mic type shield...

You seem sure this would be the result of this device, and I am fascinated by the idea. I read one user's quote saying, "It sounds like the amp is half a foot away from my face", so you seem to be on the right track.
Whether this is a good or a bad thing, I am not sure though.

It could of course help with some comb filtering - though I think the better way would be to use a less hi-tech solution, and simply put some absorption on the floor below the mics (well, halfway between mic and speaker) to kill first reflections from the floor.
These are used in project studios for vocals, in an attempt to reduce room reflections into the microphone. There are likely A/B comparison videos that show the amount of difference produced by using one for the audio recording of vocals in an untreated room.
Profiling does not capture room ambience, though. And, the amount of audio signal sent into the microphone when profiling would typically be much more than produced by a vocalist, so the guitar microphone would be more isolated from the sound of the room.
My guess is placing a large cushion from a couch behind the microphone would be just as effective, if not more, for audio recording. That would likely be a simple way to test for any effect on the EQ of a profile, too.
This particluar product is geared toward guitar recording, though.
I think that reflections (considered as reverb) is still not the greatest benefit, but rather reducing comb filtering

Nope , sick daughter, Holiday soon and other stuff in between. I'll prob just do a real simple hack job. Find metal mesh, shape it, add some standard acoustic foam, cut a whole and tada! lol.
That´s the way to do it - I don´t think it´s so much rocket science and you can probably replace much of the exotic padding with stuff like newspaper and egg carton.

Not sure if it's meant in jest - but newspaper and egg carton don't absorb much
He was joking - and so was I. Non-standard noise reduction materials produce unpredictable results. Although, they may dampen upper mids and highs just as well as acoustic foam.
