IMO a perfect addition to the powered kemper ... sending linear signals through a cab and measuring it would result in a more accurate cab sim right?
AND it would be a reason to get teh powered kemper ...
cab only profiling

Hmm... unless I'm missing something, that makes sense, mate.
+1

But I think that in this context the limits of a class D power amp get highlighted; so using a good old HiFi amplifier always remains the best solution.
-
Hmmmm....
How would you determine a suitable mic position without an amp attached?
I'm not sure I understand what is perceived the benefit here, compared to making merged profiles.
-
Fractal audio already does this ... with a neutral/linear poweramp ...
and for me it seems simply more practical to give a speaker all frequencies evenly
i don't know i don't see the logic behind that
-
you can import an IR. Use a third party software and create your own cab impulse
-
True that; all you need is a full-spectrum transient like a recording of a starter's pistol firing or a balloon popping, and to send that through and record it.
I think @Michael_dk makes a valid point.

i do that already but i already have a great cab ... and no cab profile of one and the asme mic position sounds the same, sure the amp and speakers work together but i'd simply like to profile only my cab as linear as possible without buying the axe fx that already does this ...

AND it would be a reason to get teh powered kemper ...This implies that the Cab from a Merged profile isn't so accurate. What is it about Merged Cabs that you don't like or feel is inaccurate? Out of curiosity only

I just think it would be very convenient to get both things seperately done ... first you dial in the tone then you make a direct profile first to get the source as accurate as possible and the you profile the cab in various positions and the you have afterwards a great base to work with...
I made so many profiles with my orange cab and so many ahd the same mic postition and i always had the feeling they were too differnt ...that is okay as long as it sound as the source but i always have the feeling that if the signal that goes into the cab while profiling has too many spikes and so on the cab also will not result in a neutral cab sim ... and that is what i want to have...
And once you made neutral cab profiles you only have to make direct profiles that would be great i think
-
Hmmm, just had a thought, though I'm not sure the first part of this would actually work.
If you fed the Return of the Profiler with the Direct Out when taking a "No Cabinet" profile, theoretically you'd get a 'clean' profile of just the profiling noises. Again, I'm not sure this would work, as the Profiler would probably discern that there's no amp attached, but for the sake of this little theoretical experiment, let's say you succeed. You could then mic up your cab, which is being fed via a clean, neutral power amp and the Direct Out, and profile it. Then you could Merge the two profiles, giving you a clean and separated Cab, not coloured by any amp frequencies or interactions.
-
hmm or i simply make a clean profile with a class d poweramp something that will not distort or color the test noises ... hmmm
-
I'll try it later using my Ambrosi. Maybe not the absolute cleanest poweramp, but it'll do as a start.

Good idea, Sam.
IIRC, you can profile a straight wire. I mean, if this weren't the case, we wouldn't be able to Profile subtle processors / devices such as mic pre's.

Ah yes, true enough! Thanks for the reminder, Nicky

So it works! Just made a very quick 'domestic' Cab profile (i.e. low volume, apartment level ) of my Matrix NL12. Not the most characterful cabinet granted, but as a proof of theory, it totally rocks! I made a 'straight wire' (© Nicky) profile first (ticking "No Cabinet" setting in the Profiling dialogue), then took the Direct Out into my Ambrosi ATM-70, into the NL12 and mic'ed it with a '57. Copied, pasted and merged the Cab into the straight wire® profile and Bob's yer Marley!

coool man great to hear! would you like the share the cab/profile
-
Bob's yer Marley
Hahahaha, awesome!!!
......Also the whole cab profiling thingy I guess...... That's also cool....

Sure, but I'd like to share one that was captured under better circumstances, rather than just randomly throwing a mic in front of the speaker! I'll be hopefully able to get out to the studio this weekend to be able to do some proper profiling. 1st phase of my 'new' 1978 JMP, too, all willing
