Distortion sounds "fizzy" when Cabinet is turned off - even when playing through a real guitar cabinet

  • I normally play through PA speakers in stereo, with the Cabinet simulation turned on. If I turn off the cabinet simulation on a high-gain rig, the distortion has a very noticeable "fizzy" sound. This is not a problem, as there is never a need to actually turn off the cabinet simulation when running through PA/FRFR speakers...

However, I have noticed the same thing when using my Yamaha 2x12 guitar cab.

Has anyone else noticed the same when using a real guitar cabinet and turning off the cab sim? Hopefully I'm missing something obvious!

    Thanks,
    Lance

  • which speakers are used in this cabinet? I know Yamaha produced 2x12" cabs designed specifically for their THR modeller and these offer an extended frequency range, which would explain the amount of high frequency content you are hearing.

    Thanks, Don. I think you're onto something. It's the Yamaha THRC212 2x12.
