For those using the DXR 10, where do you set your monitor output levels for best effect. Mine is currently -10dB.
Optimum monitor out level for DXR10

I don’t have my Monitor Out set to a fixed level. I use a fixed Input level on the DXR, and use the KPA Master Volume to adjust the level to suit the venue.
-
Yup, depends on the gig and style of music? I have to adjust when switching performances from Jazz to Blues to Rock to whatevs! Sometimes I use the DSP Contour, all depends.
-
Thanks guys. I’ve only just got the DXR10 and I didn’t want to clip the inputs.
-
The best way I know to prevent clipping the DXR Input is to use the 1/4” line input, and turn the DXR input level down to -5db or so.
-
I run 2 DXR10s on stage, and use the XLR ins. Volume on the DXR set to noon, line level. Works a treat.
-
Hmm - had not realy problems wirh clipping the DXR10 but using 1/4 inch connectors and good shilded cable I got to much noise. Even turning down the input level much as possible.
Now I am using 1/4 inch for kemper monitor out and the cabel has on the other side a xlr conector for input 1 on the DXR
Noise is comletly gone.
Just in case somebody has also noise issues wirh the DXR.
-
Mine is the opposite: I heard hiss when using the DXR XLR input, so I use the 1/4” input, with no noise.
-
Mine was clipping using the XLR input, even when set to line, but no problems with the 1/4".
-
Could it be that some of you have the -12db box ticked and others don’t?
-
The -12db Option is for tbe Main Outs. It does not affect the Monitor Out.
-
So it does (looks for face plant emoji)

Very interesting!
I bought a used DXR and first I was not sure if the 1/4 input is defect. But I feed the 1/4 input with other devices without noise.
So I tried a cable like this - and noise was gone: -
One other thing to be aware of - you would ideally run a 'larger' (i.e. louder) signal from the Kemper into the DXR, and have the level on the DXR lower; I've found this reduces any noise / hiss on the DXR. Feed it a hot signal, instead of using the level on the DXR tpo compensate for a low level going into it.

Yes this is a good general rule of thump how gain staging should always be approached to maximize SNR i.e. Signal-to-Noise Ratio

FWIW, feeding the DXR 10 a line level signal it gets so loud I can barely turn it up past 9 o'clock

exactly same story here with my DXR10

Just to clarify this - the Kemper should NOT be set to -12 on the output screen, and the DXR should be set to LINE.... right?

Yes, just like this
