interesting question for CK - Kemper doesn't like Sustainiac , why ?

  • One of my guitar has installed Sustainiac which works absolutely noise free with any other amp or processor .
Using it through Kemper some strange and funny noise appears . (like an old AM radio stacked between two stations 8) )

That means I cannot play my Ibanez Steve Vai with Sustainiac engaged on through my new toy ..

    (fortunately , I have a few more guitars ... :D )

    Any ideas ?

  • I've got a Sustainiac on my Steinberger and it works fine, though it increases the already high output of the EMGs even higher so maybe you just need to bring down the input level clean sensitivity a bit.

  • As Zerocrossing says it sounds like you're clipping the input, check the light on the input and see if it's going orange or red (it should just be green), if so then try reducing the input sense settings and the output from your guitar if that fails to bring it down to green.

  • Many Sustainiac Stealth Plus Neck pickups require special placement of the Sustainiac Driver "Load Plate" a.k.a "Magentic Field Cancellation Tab) - which is a special piece of metal which gets attached to the top of the Sustainiac Driver. My white "Load Plate" can be seen in the middle Top area of the Neck pickup below:
Move the white Load Plate 1/8" inch left or right and it makes a lot of noise. Leave it where it currently is and all is fine and working.

This is all detailed in the Sustainiac Stealth Plus Installation manual

  • The 'Am sound' can come because your signal level is to high - in this case simply reduce the input level.
    or
because of the KPA artifacts (aliasing) - which happens in case of high pitch notes and high gain sound.
I got this sound on all high gain profiles when playing on the high e string above the 12th fred - I hope this will be fixed in a later firmware.

Maybe the internal oversampling is not high enough for this - or it was reduced to meet the latency spec later.

I would be glad to get rid of this as well - and would accept a little longer latency (maybe this can be switchable) - in case the DSP is at it's limit already.
