Couple Beatles songs for you ( now 18) AND a VIDEO

  • First off,
I am a Beatle fanatic to say the least.

And I have hundreds of Beatles covers.

And except for a very few well done covers in Reggae style or by cover groups, they pretty much are absolutely horrible.

But not yours! Singing Something, while it has the easiest range, has the hardest vocals to own.
You did really well. Good voice, btw.

You nailed the essence that elude many.

The flabby drums heads. What program are you using? DETAILS! TIA.

The Muddy and Short tail Bass. Well done. Did you put foam under the strings?

The pads on Something were really cool.

So, since you spent a ton of time doing this,
do me a favor and start talking about what you used,
gear-wise and software-wise to do these things!

    Cough it up Bro! ;)

  • Ok ..thanks for the nice words guys

Drums are Toontrack superior drummer 2... the BD is a Ludwig..the toms are all Gretsch Muted..snare is also a Ludwig and Cymbals are Zildjian's
Bass is actually a software too.. it Trillian with the Beatles bass samples
Piano or Organs and strings are done with Kontakt and Colossus
Rhythm guitar is a Casino and lead is a LP
It's recorded with Cubase ..I use a few plugs but try to stay with period correct things (Redd Console , Fairchild)..though there wasn't much done to this yet ..especially on the vocals (that I'll redo cause they are just one quick take and not that great to me) ..I use an AKG 414 through UA 610 for vocals
I will record about 30 Beatles song ..Today I will work on "Hey Bulldog" 8)

  • Thanks! Cool info.

I didn't know Trillian has a Beatles bass sample. Oh, just looked it up. An acoustic that is similar to Paul's Hofner, yes? Cool.

Did you downtune the Ludwig and Gretsch's yourself?

Have you heard this guy, the group is Tame Impala, has two albums out, latest is Lonerism. His drumming is very Ringo, the music psychedelic 60's style. If you dig that kind of drumming, you might like his stuff. From Australia.

Edited once, last by db9091 ().

  • I think Trillian's samples are actually based on the Epiphone Viola.. I must get one of those thing some day
Yeah I tuned the drums on "Come together" but didn't do anything for" Something"
Don't know about the guy you're mentionning sorry

BTW " Hey Bulldog " is online now

    Hey Bulldog

  • Rhythm guitar is a Casino and lead is a LP

Great sound! It's obvious that this is a labour of love with attention to every detail of the original. Now all you need is an IR of Abbey Road studio 2. I've heard that there actually are Impulses of that room floating around somewhere, but I never got hold of them. A friend of mine has visited Abbey Road twice (for SOS) and got a good rundown of everything there including the infamous echo chambers (and pretty much every piece of gear that was used by the Beatles). But he didn't brought home any impulses unfortunately ;)

May I ask what Casino you have? An original or one of the recent reissues? I was thinking about getting one of the "inspired by Lennon" ones from the recent chinese series but I didn't get my hands on one yet. They are said to have thin necks and I like my necks more on the fat side so I think I need to play one first to see if I can gel with them.

    Thanks Bro

The casino is the current basic model..BUT I changed all pickups and electronics.and more (bone nut ,file dress, etc) ..the neck isn't too thin..Casino original specs are a 1-5/8 nut but thick neck...the Chinese model is 1-1/16 so wider ..Actually I prefer a 1-5/8 but really thick.. I new that the inspired by Lennon and std model had the same neck and I was afraid it would be wide/thin so I just got the basic model..but it's not thin... May be I should have got the Lennon..now for the price I paid even with upgraded parts I'm below the Lennon cost ...One thing I care about with every set neck guitar is the neck angle..if bad the bridge ends up high..also with the Casino it's a problem with the non adjustable pickups..so you neeed shims etc... well it's a no go for me..mine have a very low bridge ..those guitars are cool for everyone with a back problem too ..under 3 kgs but extremely balanced (may be not so with the Lennon Natural with Grovers though)..now do not expect to play anything high gain..it's just impossible because of feedback

  • This is incredible! :thumbup::thumbup:

Please, tell us something more... gear... amp used and so on... ;)

Really enjoying Bulldog, great sound and playing, and apologies if I missed it but what Amp profiles did you use? Its easy to assume its an AC30, but if so which ones, what's the settings?
    :)
