Lately I've been a bit conscious of my music being somewhat driven by the same kind of musical ideas.
Therefore I decided to challenge myself to write a piece of music with no guitar in it.
So I started and it was difficult. So I decided to go old style and use only the instruments found in a traditional symphony orchestra.
After some time I though it was good enough to share, so here it is.
I'd love to hear what you think as this is a real departure from what I usually do!

Congratulations on a fine guitar. I own a Blade Texas Custom 62 that I really like.

Thank you guys!
It's always good for the ego to post here.
And as this was back to one set of roots, my next tune is more of the 80s LA studio rack tones.

Man, that was good. You always seem to do stuff that I couldn't come up with even if my life depended on it.

This tune started with the bass. I had just received the Atomic Amps Bass Box and I really liked this sound I got so I figured I'd just write a tune where I could play it.
As most of those who've heard more than a few of my tunes know I tend to gravitate towards the smooth jazz/pop style of the late 80s and early 90s. One of my major influences was Larry Carlton and I think that's quite evident in this tune.
The profiles I used for the melody and second guitar solo was from my own D-style ODS Rig Pack
The first guitar solo was a prototype D*mble rig I got from Michael Britt.
Guitar for melody/solo: Collings I-35LC
Hope you'll like it!

Nicely done, very true to the source. Great tones and nuanced playing, thanks for sharing.
Tack, Per! Uppskattas!

... where you belong, with a little bit of Lee thrown in for good measure.
Ha,ha!
Classy as always, Mats.
Lovely touch.
Thank you! I had fun.
Later today, it's back to LC's domains.

If you, like me, are old enough to remember the release of the Pink Floyd Classics like Wish You Were Here and The Wall then it's hard, as a guitar player, not to be influenced by David Gilmour.
This tune is very much an homage to that source of inspiration.
Hope you'll enjoy it!

I really enjoyed this!

A bit late to the party but I love it! Great tones throughout and great consistent slide work. I recently acquired my first P90 equipped LP and I am also loving the versatility all around.
Hey SD!
Thank for the nice words.
I did want to dip my toes in P90 water but wasn't sure I would enjoy it so I found a really good deal on a used PRS SE SC Soapbar and I love it. I first thought I would change the pickups but I don't think I will. I may, however, try to get some better tuners.

just a head's up, Wampler has a few free plugins taken from their Terraform pedal. One is a really good chorus. There's a vibe which is ok and an envelope follower that's exceptional.
Soundtoys Microshift and Little Microshift do a pretty good Dim C and a great DMX width that I use a lot.
Thanks for the info.
Seems like Don't Crack has a Dimension-C vst.

When I spoke to Christoph K a few years ago at NAMM he said they already had a Dimension-C thing going in research.

I used open E on a P90 neck pickup and came up with these on a M. Britt Dumble.

Most excellent!

I love standard tuning for slide ...I know where all my notes are ...you can play minor triads on the top 3 strings ....open G on the middle 3 (or G6 on the top 4 ..) really versatile
Hi Millstudios,
I never, ever thought of it that way. This opens up a lot of possibilities. Thank you!
Cheers,

Open C gives slide a bayou swamp tone, Open G is Keef and open E everything else
Any one of those tunings will get me "totally lost out of tune"-tone.

Mats N
Very nice. Yea standard tuning is sometimes a tricky thing for slide, but I seem to always revert back to A-440 tuning for some reason too lol
Standard tuning might be tricky, but at least I know where the notes are.
