I had this happen once, tried a different (shorter) usb cable and changed the usb port and presto...

I am thinking about all of those...
Most surpass the price of the Helix by the time I'm done with what I want/need but I haven't discarded any of the choices just yet. That's right, we have no idea what the Helix fx are like. Which is why I'm content to sit right here on top of the fence and wait to see what's gonna come out of that shiny box once it hits the streets.
I'm not making any assumptions either way. -
Very true, dat...
It's just that I myself I'm not looking at Helix as any sort of a competition with the KPA, so it's apples and oranges with me. KPA stays for Da Toanz. I will or will not buy the Helix for the effects and the connectivity.

while all a guitarist wants to know is: does it sound like the real deal?
OK, granted, I'm not much of a guitarist, but my philosophy is slightly different in this regard.
I'm perfectly willing to cut _some_ slack to the modelling bit if
- the model sounds and feels good to me and is useful for what I need it to be/do
- the device in question introduces use cases that are either impossible with the original unit or are in some relevant way (to me) a big improvement (tonally/physically/logistically)In other words, I'm looking at Helix purely from the effects side of things, the usability/simplicity of the IO and the connectivity options. IR loading doesn't hurt either if amp tones turn out decent. For raw amp tones, I've got my Kemper.
If it works out, great. I have no problems giving credit where credit is due and parting with my money if it makes an improvement in my music process. If not, it's just one more L6 disappointment and I'll look elsewhere. -
Ditto!
I got a taste of it from the samplepack and I'll definitely be getting it when my next paycheck arrives!See Jimi, it pays to give out some freebies!

I really like Tallstrom, have done so for years... great player!
-
I said so before and have no problems standing behind what I said. I will absolutely NOT sell the Kemper. Ever.
Whether I eventually buy a Helix or a FX8 or any other fx gizmo out there has no bearing on the discussion because I have all the amp tones I need so that aspect of the Helix is not what I'd consider a selling point at all (should the Helix ampsims prove to be noteworthy).OK, I may be armtwisted into selling the KPA to finance the KPA2....

I don't have "ears of gold". I am an (occasionally) creative hobbyist, and it's more important that the gear I choose puts a smile on my face. No one in the entire universe cares whether I have the best tone possible, except for me, and after this past three years, I'm pretty much over it. Good tone, yes please. Best tone? Depends: how much hair am I going to pull out?
This... THIS!!! Get outta my head, man!

I don't have experience with Thomann warranty policies but I do know they take their sweet time answering emails.
If I don't need a reply from them for a week or two, I'll shoot them an email. If I need it faster than that, I call them up. They have a very helpful helpdesk service... -
The TGP thread is already at 100+ pages.... no surprise there, really...
But any and all fanboism aside, it's an interesting piece of tech for sure and when the actual RL vids start rolling in we'll be writing at least 11 more.

Buy the Kemper and you'll never need to buy an amp again... ever.
This was my thought process while getting a Kemper.
I never bought an amp again.

I'm sorry, I linked that @work because I recalled someone taking the feet of something... I should learn to read more carefully these days and also not to take work so seriously that it interferes with my comprehension of guitar forums.

Knowing Griff (of him, really) and his schedule with the instrument, you can take everything he says to the bank.
When he says "I use it a lot", that's probably an understatement. -
OK, thanks!
So I just pay the return shipping and Robert's your mother's brother? No restocking fee?
-
I admit to being too lazy to look it up...
Is there any sort of return/restock policy with Thomann? Try out the Helix and return it if it's a stillborn? -
Well I for one don't mind publicly displaying interest in this one. It in no way, shape or form represents a dislike for Kemper nor does it mean that I'll be jumping ship (which I certainly won't).
It's simple.... I'm a gearhead at heart (sadly the wallet is not even in the same universe ) so when a piece of gear with a dozen lcds and 3rd party IRs and four fx loops shows up at the horizon, I can't help but to raise my ears a bit. Same goes for the FX8/AX8. I'll never get one (mostly because I can't afford any of it after buying a Kemper at what's really a stupendous amount of money for me) but I enjoy reading up about it.

I don't think AX8/FX8 are also getting the TigerSHARCs? I've stopped keeping up with the specs...
FX8 should have one SHARC, AX8 one additional for the ampsims, but I don't think they're tigers? -
Im taking a wait and see approach.
Same here. L6 has produced quite a few flaming turds over the years so I'm gonna sit out the early adoption on this one and see how it all works out a year down the line.
But generally, color me interested... -
I used the ones I took off the toaster...
