That looks like a really awful situation, good luck to our Italian mates & family
A strong earthquake in Centre Italy.

Here in the South we didn't ear the earth moving, but we are shaked and shocked anyway.
Take care Gianfranco, we all are with you. -
Dear Viabcroce,
Really sorry to hear this awful news. Have just returned from the lakes in Northern Italy. Italy is such a beautiful country, with beautiful people and beautiful culture.
Our thoughts, prayers and best wishes go to you and all your fellow Italians. I sincerely hope the the aftershocks stop soon.
Take care

Ciao GF, glad to read you are well. Warm thoughts for our Italians friends

Thanks to all the forumites who recently joined the thread, it's relieving to feel your sympathy
Here's how platforms are moving in the area according to the mapped faults system:

We have a devastating earthquake about every 100-150 years, but now it seems things are escalating

Hold on tight brother and know that we are with you! -
I feel so bad for the people that have lost their lives or their loved ones in this tragic event.
I've seen it on TV for a while and knew after few minutes that it won't be 30 victims, but then I just didn't watch the footage anymore.
These year I spent 2 weeks in Italy (Emilia-Romana and Tucsany) and I really enjoyed time spent in some small cities.
Take care Gianfranco I also hope, that there will be still rescued people. -
Thanks mate.
Of course the limited number of victims was related to the slowness of rescues due to the particular locations the events took place at.
We are over 300 victims now and very far from the final balance. As for me, after 900 perceivable shakes, have moved 600 km South for my holidays...
... and I'll be damned if I don't feel earth shaking here as well. -
Dang. Unbelievable, bud.
Keep being strong. We're with you.
-
Thanks Nicky. These are shakes we are definitely accustomed to, and as long as they are not the echo of something much stronger happening elsewhere they mean nothing, apart from everything always being on the move here (see my previous graphic) and small shakes taking place every few minutes (Sicily moves @ 3 cm/year for example in comparison to the continent. Something like S. Andreas in California I guess).
The problem is tho that after a strong earthquake you become much more sensitive, and even a window simply shaking because of a light wind alarms you up back.
As a side note, earthquakes are something you can live with (see Japan). The problem here is that the lobbies are much more interested in making money that protecting people. Some of the buildings damaged in this last tragic event had been rebuilt (with "anti-seismic criteria?) after the 2009 catastrophe... I guess you get the point.
-
I sure do, bud.
Also, I very-much understand the hypersensitivity that follows a big quake. My nerves are shot from many dozens of shocking life events that occurred before I had time to recover from any of them. Now the 'phone ringing, a knock at the door, a dog barking, a creak in the night or even an insect landing on me give me a fright and I literally go numb in the legs and have to sit down. The adrenalin spike goes away after a few minutes thankfully, but I'd suggest that if anyone can understand this hypersensitivity that follows a major shock, it is I, brother.
Keep being strong, GianfrancBro'. You're doing us proud and we're not going anywhere so, and I suspect you know this, if you need to "vent" for any reason, every one of us will surely understand.

So sweeet Nicky! Thanks for your strong support
A hug
-
so sad really : (
Im with you all!
-
Thanks Andy, appreciate it.
-
Glad your okay my friend, the buildings that were built to resist the quake were okay, building a DOME is the best, hopefully they re build earth quake sensitive buildings like the ones that with stood the Quake (saw it on the Utube news)
If you look up EARTHSHIP, not only are they eco friendly, but also because they are a Dome structure they are SAFE.
The Earth Ship people went over to Haiti to build domes for them,Be safe brother, they may be moreAsh

Thanks mate.
the problem is that about 1/3 of the buildings in Italy go back to middle age. Many of them are of historical value... consider cities like San Gimignano or Orte... where to start from? Who should pay for that incredible amount of work?
Also, re-building is often entrusted to companies that have had a special (political, economical) relationship with some lobbies, so (as for the school I mentioned some messages back) you never know "how well" they are built.
Italy is the Country where the bigger the crime, the less likely it is punished...[Extends arms and puckers up lips...]

Exactly, although I did picture lipstick as well, like an old avatar of mine:

Hey, that one was me!
-
Aww... why do I always have to be the ugly one?
Lipstick may not work on a pig, but it suits you just fine, GianfrancBro'... I mean, GianfrancSis'.
