What profiles do you guys use live for a hot rodded Marshall tone? I've tried the Friedmans, older marshalls with a boost, etc but can't really find something I'm jiving with. I run an Alto 112 live, as well as IEMs (don't get me started on how bad guitar always sounds through those) and while it sounds insanely good at home, at LOUD volumes, outside of my home I've been struggling with the tone. I had a pre production meeting last night for a CD and got to jam with my drummer and singer. We played at a relatively low volume as he used an electronic kit so my tone wasn't as loud as normal. Some venues I play require a lower stage volume as well and I find that when not turned up to volumes an actual Marshall 100 watt amp thrives on, I can't get the overdrive/distortion to play nicely.
I'm a high gain player...probably moreso than a lot of guys here. I can get a great tone without a boost or OD in the stomp section but when I add the appropriate amount of gain that I prefer, the sound isn't as clear anymore. I don't get that with an actual amp. It's better when louder, but like I said, sometimes ya gotta play at lower volumes and the sound becomes squished or "crackly" sounding if that makes sense. Right now, for my next gig, I'm using a Marshall JVM profile with varying amounts of gain on the amp for different patches. Again, at home, it's great...even in different rooms in my house. Out of the house, not so much...it loses its "balls" and becomes too "hairy" lol
So suggestions are welcome!
