New Kemper

  • Just got new KPA. Currently running it through Bose L1 Compact. So far I am very impressed. Downloaded a few profiles from Kemper. Some are okay, some are great and some aren't worth having for the way I play. Any suggestions on commercial downloads from Amp Factory and the like? I play a lot of blues and classic rock. Not into metal at all. Primarily a bedroom player. I have numerous fender tweed and tube amps as well as numerous vox amps in my collection. Love them all. The idea of not having to change amps for sound and so far the KPA is impressive, has led me to the KPA.

Will be on here asking questions I am sure. Am totally new to the KPA as well as the "amp profiling concept". Am well beyond social security age, but still willing to rock and learn.

I look forward to coming back here for help. I will try not to be a bother.

  • TAF Bundle 8 is really great.. I just picked it up and love most of the amps.. Also the Marshall Toolkit/Pack has some really great Marshall profiles.. again I can't put them down...

    welcome!

    Gettin' funky up in here..

  • Ciao camchada, welcome here :)

Have fun with your Profiler! Consider that a profile's tweaking might sound bad to you using one guitar, but might shine with another one.. Just a hint ;)

  • I play a lot of blues and classic rock. Not into metal at all.

I am also a blues / rock guitarist. And initially had the very same question you.

In my experience there are LOTs of great profiles hidden in the database at the Kemper site.

I strongly suggest you install the latest Kemper OS and download the Rig Manager (free) for the PC. Hook the computer to the PC by USB ( RTFM :) ) Once you are up and running, it will allow you to quickly scroll thru and preview instantaneously any profile on your system. Its really the most effective way to hear how they sound with YOUR guitar / speaker setup.

Ive bought a lot of commercial ones and have not been impressed with their tone using my Soloist or Strat or Les Paul in conjunction with a FRFR speaker (QSC K10) (which I feel is a MUST to really hear what the Kemper can do with tones).

  • You can pick TAF by the amps you like, but I got a lot of bang for the buck with Andy's Bundle 6, Boutique.
Everyone is an individual, but really, it's hard to go wrong with any pack by TAF. The first bundle gives the most profiles per $

BTW, do you actually own all those guitars or run a guitar store, ha ha!! ;)

  • Thanks forl the suggestions and advice. Bekieve me I will try to follow them all. I think I will start by trying the Kemper profiles that came with it, as well as some of the uploads on the site, and will tweak and tune with them before purchasing any more profiles.

Thanks for the accolades about my guitar collection. I really love each and every one of them in their each individual way.

I cannot seem to find out how many rigs or profiles the KPA will hold on board the KPA, not including a flash drive or computer hook up. Could someone give me some idea of how many?

    Thanks again!

  • They recommend not holding more than 1000 profiles. You CAN hold more, but they don't recommend doing that, since updates require that extra space.

The RM in fact kind of allows you to have way less profiles, since you can add them any time you like, or just load and play one and record, but not have it stored permanently on your KPA.

I used to hold over 800 and with the RM I have under 200 now. But try and keep it under 1001 rigs.

  • Welcome!

You picked the right box for for classic rock sounds :)

One way to zero in on likely rigs is the all the example sounds and videos that have been posted.

If you look back through the "Free Rigs" and "Post Your Music" part of the forum, you can listen to many sound clips of the Rig Exchange rigs and Kemper Factory rigs .

There are also many YouTube videos that feature rig sounds.

  • Yes, I own them all and at least that many amplifiers as well.

May have to sell some of the amps, if the KPA works out.

  • I tried Trainwreck profiles from theampfactory.com and liked it. After you tried them surely you will gas for other profiles. Other free profiles from KPA site are worthy to try, look at the rating first and how many voted for a certain profiles then try them. You will enjoy your KPA journey I'm sure and keep reading the KPA forum. I learned a LOT from this site :)
