Well the KPA is sort of know for it's great interface. Using with a foot controller will be some setup, as will the Performance section, but otherwise the interface and menu's area snap.
Plus there is a lot of help and experience on this forum that will get you up and running. You, my friend, are NOT alone!

Don't be intimidated. Just plugin, browse profiles and play. if you find one you like play more and learn what the controls can do (especially the the ones in the amp menu). Go from there.
The Profiler is definitely not any more obscure than a POD to master.
So what is the difference between browser mode and performance mode?
in Browser mode you make your pool of profiles and rigs that you like and generally want to use.
Performance mode is organized in 125 performances à 5 slots = 125 rigs in total.
You can use a Performance for a song with different parts, or for an amp with different settings, etc.
In performance mode you import your profiles from the Browser and adjust them so that they fit your performance, i.e. you tweak incl. FX, song tempo, etc.
You can think of Performance mode as 125 banks of 5 patches. The patches in a bank can be balanced volume-wise against each other at the very simplest level; at more advanced levels, you can have different rigs in different patches for different parts of a song (on a bank-per-song basis, for example). It's a bit more finicky than the rest of the Kemper's menus and setup, but is still pretty straightforward. Just don't change patches via midi when setting up a bank, otherwise you'll lose your changes!
As Ingolf so rightly said, Browse mode is for browsing all the rigs/profiles on your KPA.

So is it true that a pod hd setup midi cannot control performance mode? Can you use browse mode live if you use the same patch for a song?
You can use browse mode live no problem at all, you just have to assign the midi channel to the profile. This is what we all did before performance mode was available. Performance mode just makes it easier to set up rigs for live use, but if you choose your fine to use browse mode live. I know the bass player in my band uses it live
If you are sending MIDI program changes from the Pod HD, they will change the Performance/Slot.
BUT, Line 6 has four switches, and the Kemper has five slots per Performance.
1A on the Pod = MIDI PC 1 = Performance 1, Slot 1
and
1D on the Pod = MIDI PC 4 = Performance 1, Slot 4
Here's where it starts to get odd:
2A on the Pod = MIDI PC 5 = Performance 1, Slot 5
Then,
2B on the Pod = MIDI PC 6 = Performance 2, Slot 1
etc.
If you are OK with using four Slots per Kemper Performance, you can custom program your Pod to send MIDI PC changes to to the Kemper that will keep The Pod's ABCD lines up with Slots 1-4 in the Kemper:
On the Pod, you would program the MIDI PC changes to be:
1A - 1D send PC 1-4
2A - 2D would send PC 6-9
3A - 3D would send PC 11-14
4A - 4D would send PC 16 - 19
etc.
