In that case he is using a personal patch on the Axe FX, but I know you can get crazy midi Violin sounds from say, a Roland GK for instance.. but I love the Kemper so much and it does everything well, I might just be surprised with one more amazing sound!
In my Soundcloud Kemper Clips there is a sound a little like this ( mine is more of a string section sound). The link to the sounds is in my signature, and the name of the Rig Exchange rig is VowelCelloDooSynth. With a light touch, it sounds like a cello. With heavier touch (I used hammer-ons for the chords) , a "doo" sound is added.
it sounds like a synth guitar to me. there is no way to achieve that speed with a sound that sweeps the volume to cut the attack. in other words, doing it with the volume as per van halen's 'cathedral' is impossible.
as a matter of fact I don't see dweezil moving the volume at all. instead he picks and does legato playing. obviously it is the sound that is attackless.
my opinion is it is impossible to get that sound with the kemper...but would be stunned if someone does it
EDIT: in the info there is a mention on a fractal programming session. so it must be that machine. thus not a synth guitar

It does so remind me of the Roland guitar synths of the 90's, GK-1 etc... obviously they've come a long way baby!!

From what I've read Dweezil's cello is a "sampled" cello. I don't believe sampling is something the KPA is capable of. I wonder in the future...? hmm...

According to the Axe Forum, it is based on a user's violin patch that uses a "synth block" effect. But,If the KPA had an Envelope Filter in it (an Attack Delay or Auto Swell, in guitar FX terms), it would be easy enough to do with the other existing effects.
Hmmmm......Here is a possibility - It *might* be possible to use Ducking to remove the attack of notes, if the effect with ducking enabled is 100% wet. That depends on the range and depth of the ducking settings.
Interesting - let's see what we can come up with similar to this... It will be worth it!

Dweezil Zappa is an excellent guitar player (as his dad) and what i hear is sometimes missing notes while he is playing.
So i believe that is not Zappa's fault but a Guitar Midi-Synth tracking problem. In my opinion he is using midi tracking
with any midi synth. Or may be one of the new software midi trackers which were developed in the last years.
