Hei folks I need your opinions whether to buy a guitar or not (not that I would really need another one):
I could buy a Gibson "The Paul" form 1978. As far as I read it was a cheaper model from Gibson to keep up with lower priced strats. I don't know if it was the standard (Walnut body) or deluxe (Mahagoni body) because it was lacquered all over so you cannot see the wood color anymore. What do you guys think, is it worth a closer look?

Soundwise I would not bother anyway. And both grains could look fine if stained - just in case you want to get rid of the paint...
Here comes my second exercise project: Deluxocaster #002. Based on a Squier neck and Rockit body, which was all black at the beginning. My daughter wanted some black-purplish thingy. She is fairly happy and I learned more for my "serious" project, the Hollowcaster.

Hei Spinner
Thanks for your feedback. Yeah that was more meant for the worth of it not really about the sound but could really be a point. Yeah if I buy it I would want to get rid of the paint for it doesn't look so well and I am quite a "original look" kind of guy when it comes to older guitars
And hey another great looking paint job of yours! I totally dig purple right next to turqoise

"The Paul"s are fantastic guitars by any measure. My guitarist in one of my bands has one, and it's one of his best sounding instruments. He swears that the non-laminated top makes them better sounding to his ears than normal Les Pauls. They also tend to be built very well and play very well. I think they they were among the first instruments to champion Gibson's return to quality in the late 70's/early 80's.
I saw this earlier on FB, i don't own it nor do I know who physically owns it but when I saw it i thought to myself 'My god, if i had the cash spare I would buy that in a heart beat'.
Check this MOFO out, holy shit!

That is very sharp. Would consider it if I saw for sale.
Personally I would get rid of the gold hardware though.
Not sure why but I never particularly cared for gold on a guitar.
Come to think of it I don't care for gold trimmings on anything really.
But yes very nice.
I think gold would be the better option given the colour of the outer layers of the wood. What else could you change it to? Chrome, Black? Black may work given the black pickup but i think the gold sits lovely but once again though , personal preference.
Black would work and would probably be the easiest as far as stock goes.
I guess it would be whatever was available with the chosen components.
Not sure to be honest. I would have to shop if I was building one.
I see what you are saying with the border wood color against the gold.
If this guitar was the right price I could overlook my hesitation towards gold. I just don't prefer it.
Ever see somebody trim out their car in gold? Looks gaudy to me.
That's ridiculous, Dan.
My custom shop strat has gold trimmings, and my Sabre custom Ghost that should be arriving before the end of the year will have, too. Never went for it before, but for some reason it's grown on me.
Nice guitar, MentaL!
Take a closer look at that guitar.
Their are a bunch of wicked faces in it.
I am sure they were not intended but it is just like clouds, we automatically look for faces in them.
Start by looking dead left of the volume knob.
Many more if you look.

Tell me, what do you see?

For some reason it makes me think of ashtrays and red velvet, Skocz.
I reckon silver looks way classier for cars.
