Off course, when he replaced the almighty Paul Gilbert in Mr. Big, there was no chance to avoid the pick, because of the style of the music:
Yeah, and as I implied, because I've got all his stuff I've heard mostly medium to heavy rock and fusion playing. To my ears, it's pretty much a pick all the way there. I wouldn't be surprised if he uses his fingers for most of the acoustic stuff 'though.

@Monkey_Man Richie is my favourite musician. And i can tell you from seeing concerts and stuff: he is using only fingers nowadays.
i think he decided to go that way in 2006. give or a take a year. this is amazing, isnt it? plus he is the best singer on the planet imho.

No worries @Monkey_Man bro - yes I was referring to "more recent" days of Ritchie.
For sure playing Mr Big stuff constructed by his awesomeness, shredness Mr Paul Gilber would be impossible without a pick.
I was like "No pick?!? And he can play all that?!? Fuuuck..." 
But he uses the pick in some songs. This one from 2009 is an example.
Well i guess he can use whatever he wants, hes fuckin Richie Kotzen! lol
Kotzen reminds me of Prince every time I hear his compositions. Got that funky cool vibe going on. Oh yeah, and he can play and sing as well!
