It can vary with individual guitars, pickups, etc, but for most people, the KPA tone controls (and Definition, etc in the amp controls) are enough to tweak a rig to work with any guitar.

I could spend time tweaking a profile to make it more usable, though I'd rather start with a profile that's tailored for the pickups I'm using in the first place and minimize the time I spend tweaking.

Ah gotcha - that's a fairly new release so still need to do some re-amping clips through the latest released packs! They're quality profiles as we've been told so far.... Just so so busy gearing up for live shows currently and (unfortunately) this isn't the main occupation -- it's a side passion ;)!
Funnily enough the QUICK ROD are the profiles I've chosen to use myself for live needs - feel that's testament to what they can do!

Then maybe i am ONE of them at least. Here is what has helped (which is why i am going to start a thread "highlights of commercial vendors" in a few weeks)
Here is the secret to success , it is never going to change.
1) Samples FIRST
2) No post EQ
3) Pick up selection AND type-IE single coil/HB's (in demo vid or tagged in RM)
4) Some Freebies to users.
5) Like Dead light/Sinn others DO
A Style recommended IE- Deadlight studios demoed the Soldano , they did a black death demo
With the PRS Amp they did a hardcore style demo , Dan has done a few. Renaud (valve theory) also does this
6) MERGED AND DIFFERENT CABS
=SUCCESS.
We search for the raw sound , Merged/CABS, pick up selection and recommended style.
Thats it.
Now you Vendors know

We've nailed some of these and gradually nailing others haha! Hopefully this will appease you Ash 
although we're not about Single Coils at this stage in the game (of tones :p) we're running a very special Holidays promotion throughout Dec up to Christmas Day! Hopefully we can welcome you to the GOT family soon

Guys i just wanted to say thank you for making it easier for us to evaluate these packs, i will look at all the samples done
Of cause ill post my review here when done. Usually i seek the HB's for high gain stuff, but some times you can get a good lead profile for single coils with the clarity , definition tweaks and treble/prescience tweaks etc.
