For anyone mixing their own music.
Impulse Response of Apogee Mini DAC to Don Classics NV73 pair to Drawmer 1968me to Apogee Ensemble Thunderbolt.
The Apogee mini DAC is a very flattering digital to analog converter. I love how it sounds, especially feeding the Neves.
The Don Classics NV73 are 500 series Neve clones that will add depth and smooth out digital harshness.
The Drawmer 1968me is a tube bus compressor, with threshold set high here so it isn’t compressing.
The impulse is retuning through the ADC of the Apogee Ensemble Thunderbolt which is a high quality uncoloured (transparent) converter.
What this impulse will give you is the frequency response, harmonic content and frequency dependent transient response and slew rate that of this chain and will add depth and make mixes sound less digital.
It won’t give dynamic saturation so pushing the level higher won’t give more colour or saturation.
I use this rig across the stereo bus of all my mixes and love the way it sounds ( I find it much harder to mix without this rig inserted)
The signal chain is running at -12dBFS (at 1kHz) output to input.
To use this, insert a convolution (IR) reverb or other impulse loader into your main output bus then load this stereo IR wav and set the mix fully wet.
Looking forward to hearing opinions on this so please reply if you try it out.
This could also be used as an insert in your DAW sending back to the Kemper return when profiling an amp.
