Wild guitar bends Mats_Nermark ! Took me totally by surprise in a good way
Great stuff, also very unique sounding it feels midway between country, modern blues and rockabilly something very chewy and satisfying about the pocket you've got that groove in.
Thanks, Per!
I was kind of surprised by those bends as well as they are way over the top but strangely fit well with the tune.
Regarding the groove, I had listened a lot to Joe Davies at the time who a master of the swampy Lousiana swing groove.

Great track with that country blues vibe & organ , really misses a growly voice over it , or a Robben ford light voice for instance.
Thanks, Renaud!
I do wish I could sing.

Mats N
Definitely-better Brother Mats.
Lead could still come down a bit but hey, it's an improvement.
This is sort of funny as I usually am told my leads are too low in volume.
Cheers,
Mats N
Bravo to me for my critique.

Indeed and I thank you for it. It is very valuable to have peers listening to what I do and give suggestions.

synth bass is much better heard and mix is pretty clear , well done on that remix
Thanks, Renaud!
Cool comment as the original mix only had a synth bass and for this I doubled the bass line with a sampled electric bass to get some more definition in the upper bass and lower mid frequencies.
Cheers,
Mats N
I wrote and recorded this in 2014 when I started listening to Nashville based guitarist Joe Davies.
As I now publish one blues + backing track per month for a local blues association, I though I would revisit and remaster this tune so this is the latest version.
The guitar was a James Tyler SE and I used a Michael Britt Spanky profile for this.

I got a comment from Renaud waraba and BayouTexan that the bass was weak and Monkey_Man thought the lead was a bit too load.
As I really appreciate and read everything said about my music, I thought I should do something about it.
So here's a new version where I lowered the lead a bit and added another bass to the track.
Cheers,
Mats N
Thanks BayouTexan !
Mats_Nermark I use UAD Capitol Chambers for that with the default reverb, I think it’s called “The One”. The trick is to kill the bass and mids till there are no more wolf notes or odd resonances then blend in as you like. It’s pretty subtle most of the time.
Tack, Per!
I always have a gentle master bus verb on everything to give it cohesion.
May I ask what reverb plug-in you use here and what type of reverb?
Cheers,
Mats N
I know you're not using live drums but you do make them sound like they're recorded live with the rest of the band. I've found this to be very hard so kudos to you.
Cheers,
Mats N
You nailed the overall tone of the "genre" I reckon Mats.
Only criticism is that in the mix, the lead is a bit too-loud IMHO.
Thanks, Monkey_Man!
I may have to take a new listen to the mix of this one.

No big deal. On my last tune, my lead tone was too shrill. It took me about 10 minutes to find the bad frequency and about one second to remove it with a cut.
In this case I already have done what I can with EQ, so I guess I'll have to find an additional bass sound to reinforce the original bass.
Cheers,
Mats N
Only thing missing on that tune Mats is some heavy 808! and then you got a winner.
I concur that the bass is lacking.
Thanks, BT!
I just may have to revisit the tune and add some bass elements.
Cheers,
Mats N
Great whammy work! I'd be interested to hear your take on 60's and early 70's funk that lead into and created disco. Tight short riffs Funkadelic, Ohio Players etc
Thanks, Per!
Hmmm! Interesting suggestion. I will check them out and see if I come up with something.
Cheers,
Mats N
great track Mats, really well done and a great lead tone , it's hard to hear any bass on my laptop so far
Thanks, Renaud!
Regarding the bass, I used a synth bass from Arturia Analog Lab. It was actually that sound I was using when I came up with the bass riff that started the whole tune. I also think the bass is lacking in some system as it is focused on the lower frequencies.
Cheers,
Mats N
I wanted to write/record/play something with a mix of funk and the style of 80's fusion so this what I came up with.
Guitar: James Tyler Studio Elite
Bass: Sire Marcus Miller V7
Hope you'll enjoy this!

Hi Per!
This was a very energetic piece! And fun to listen to.
And, once again, I'm amazed at how much music is beyond my ability to write. Listening to you and the other guys here is always an education.
But for some reason I don't seem to learn very much.
Cheers,
Mats N
