I don't have it yet and I already find myself going on equipboard and looking up what amps different guitarists use. Then reading about the history of the different amps and what makes them special.
Anyone else done the same?

A bit of OT, but wasn't there another site similar to equipboard but it had signal paths and everything layed out in diagrams?

Was it something like this?:

I think those were available on the now defunct website Guitargeek.com. I think the guy who makes these diagrams started working with Guitar World.
Cheers,

Yeah that was it. Sorry for the OT.

I appreciate your concern, but this is quite acceptable and not OT at all IMO.

Absolutely yes, although I've done it even before the Profiler.
The big difference to me is that I can actively try and compare now. And this is way more fun and enlightening, of course.

This is a bummer but it's still available in The Wayback Machine

Ahh, the Wayback Machine internet archive. I completely forgot about that. Good call...thanks for that, @lightbox.
Cheers,

In the end there is not much amp history. Let's be honest, tube amps are nothing but innovative. Tube technology is more than half a century old. More or less, a handful of tube amps made a benchmark:
- Marshall JMP and/ or SLP
- Marshall JCM800
- Fender Twin
- Vox AC30
- Mesa Dual Rectifier
Once in a while there's a hype of some new amp. In the 90's there was Soldano (Marshall-based). Mesa began with modifying Fender amps. Now we have Splawn and Friedman, both Marshall-based. Morgan amps - Vox-based. And so on.
