Looking for a tight, hi gain profile that works well with very low tunings

Hi folks.

I just recieved my Kemper rack the other day and have a lot of fun with it so far. Besides some great stock profiles, I found some killer ones in the rig exchange and some friends also hooked me up with great sounding ones. I especially liked several 5153 profiles so far.

However, I am looking for a very tight hi gain profile that works especially well with very low tunings (G# on a 7-string, F on an 8-string). I'm playing Death/Black Metal for the most part, but like mid-heavy sounds that cut well through the mix.

Any help would be appreciated, so thanks in advance!

Pretty much any high gain profile can be tweaked to do that if you use the tubescreamer model in front of the stack, vol high, gain 0.

Also placing the "metal eq" after the stack and cutting the bass with it will help with this.

Tweaking definition, clarity, bias and tube type will also be helpful in the amplfier settings.

But to start with, Dirk Goodings "VH4 channel 3 + TS" profile comes to mind.

I would recommend the Tapp Profiles from the forum here. Then just use the Cab from Dirk Goodings 6505 + TS and you´re good to go. Put on a high and low pass filter with the graphic EQ and you have yourself a nice tight hi-gain profile that works awesome on Drop A and below! Then just tweak it to your liking (personally I put in a bit more presence and treble and pulled out some of the bass and the profile was pretty much perfect)

I don't have experience with such low tunings, I have only gone down to drop B on a 6 string guitar, but anyway I'm gonna give my thoughts on high gain profiles in general

ShainSTH's Commercial Rectifier Profiles - these are just great sounding overall, not sure if you're looking for a rectifier sound, but these are for me the best rectifier profiles
Fluff Rev1 (Krank Revolution) - I'm not into the profile just as you download it, but I messed around with some of TillS recto cabs and it sounds amazing with the right cabs
Bogner XTC Ch3 Plexi by r.u.sirius - this comes as a low gain profile, but i've dialed in some more gain and it actually sounds pretty accurate, you might also put a green scream to boost up some more gain, and it sounds really metal

I've tried all these with a low tuning (the drop B I talked about), albeit not for black metal. I've tried them with some death metal and metalcore. These profiles have some good mids, and the definition is great (in that aspect I believe it's good for your style)

Anyway, just my 2 cents

These are my favourites so far. Very aggresive and articulate sounding. Dirk Gooding's 6505 + TS is a great sounding profile as well, but the combination of his cab and the TAPP amps are great. Thanks for the headsup!

Also the hi-gain profile here comibined with the 6505+ cab is a pretty brutal combination. Might be to your liking too!

Also check out the 6505+ by L.BARTA, my new favorite. You could also add a 4:1 gate (default settings is fine) to some of your high gain profiles if you want a tighter sound. Its hit or miss but an easy way to add some spice to profiles you already have.

putting the Green Scream (low drive, tone by ear and level 0 or more) in front of a high gain rig will tighten any profile.

axiom: cut bass before the distortion (like a TS circuit does) and add it back post distortion if needed.

Give the "John 5 Signature Rig" from Gundy Keller a try. It's awesome on my seven-string (and also dropped down to low A).

Thanks for all the help so far, it's greatly appreciated.

An issue I've been running into is that a lof of hi gain profiles seem to be extremely prone to produce unwanted overtones, especially on the lower strings. By chance I found out that lowering the definition setting to about 5 really helps and a friend of mine confirmed that. Most hi gain profiles people make seem to have it set to 10 by default. However, if I try to add the Green Scream in front of the amp, the problem is back.

Has anyone encountered similiar problems and what's your workaround in that case?

Damping the strings on the bridge and using the JP-pickups Crunchlab7 and Liquifire7 (DiMarzio) isn't producing extraodrinary overtones here. The appearing overtones I want!

The new Engl Smolski E and F profiles by Chris H pretty much nail that Engl tone exactly, which works very well for low tunings.

I've been a fan of the Powerball for years (I've owned three ) and this is the first time I come across a profile that really makes me feel I'm actually playing an Engl, with that rubbery, bouncy, soft compressed attack.

Hi. The profiles I made with my Bogners and Marshall were created with drop tuning in mind. I've had a few people mention they are low volume, so crank up the output! Please let me know if they work for you.

This profile is great, but it gets even better if you use a variation of TillS Recto cabs, I thought so at least !
